a 7 month old sleep?
We are not really in any sort or routine but Alex feeds every 4 hours or so and is up for however long he's happy, most of the time not over 2 hours. Generally he sleeps for about an hour sometimes he has a longer sleep in the afo early evening and then he goes down for the night in between 8 and 9. He still wakes during the night normally only once but sometimes a few more times. DH is wondering if he sleeps to much during the day and thats why he's not sleeping through and I am thinking there is another reason so just wondered how much sleep he should be having.

about 11-12 hours total overnight and another 2-3 hours total during the day from what I know (but please correct me if I'm wrong ladies!)

My girl goes to bed 7-7.30, normally has night feed 10.30-11, and she's an "early riser" so wakes for her 1st milk feed at 5am, back down for a sleep until 7ish when she has breakfast. On a good day she'll have a morning nap around 9.30ish (about 45min) and an afternoon nap around 1pm (about an hour and a bit.)

With Daniel, he sleeps 7.30pm-7.30am. During the day, he might have 2 hours in the morning and 2x45 sleeps during the day, otherwise 3x45 minute sleeps.

I would probably try and work on the late afternoon/early evening sleep - I *think* you probably want them awake from 5pm-ish to work toward an earlier sleep time. That said, I know that the 4-4.45 sleep is crucial for Daniel - he sometimes tries to go without but he's heinous if he does!

Caden usually has a sleep at around 10 or 11, then another one around 3.30, he sleeps for an hour or 2 in the mornings, and the afternoons he will sleep up to 3 hours or more sometimes.

At night he sleeps from 7.30-8 until about the same in the morning, some mornings he will randomly sleep in until 9! but thats only if he has woken during the night for some reason, he always goes back to sleep after 10 mins or so but it seems to make him want to sleep longer in the morning.

I know Sophia is a bit younger than Alex however my little chart that guides me has helped a lot.

12 hrs over night and no more dream feed...eek!
awake for 3 hrs at a time with 1 - 1 1/2 hrs sleep twice per day. She has now stopped fussing with going to bed and stopped waking through the night. Although because she is now crawling all over the show she gets a bit tired and sometimes needs another 30 min sleep before dinner.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for all the input ladies.

Sheza I love the name you have chosen for you next arrival.

gee most days for us go something like this
awake 6-7 down for half an hour to an hour at around 9.30 up an hour later then up til around 1 prob later these days then if we're lucky a bigger sleep, 2ish hours, then up quick nap around 5 and then he got into the habit of going down at 8ish only waking at 4. Lately though he has been waking more at night but then he is getting teeth and has a bit of a cold. So on that note should I be putting Alex in more of routine? We don't mind that he only naps but I have started to wonder if I'm not doing him any favors by not having him in one. In saying that I do tend to overthink things so am prob just having another neurotic mother moment.

Heather hun you do have him in a routine but just one that he devised and it is pretty much the same as Soph :o)
He is up for about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs right? then sleeps between 1 - 2 hrs and a cat nap later?

I think the waking in the night is to do with his teeth having said that waking in the night may have accidently become part of his routine now.

Good luck and enjoy your chocolate

Joel goes down about 6.15pm...up at about 7am.

Back down about 9.30am...sometimes for 2 hours, sometimes for 45 mins.

Back down again about 1 depending on how long he slept in the morning. If he had a big sleep in the morning he normally has about 1.5hrs in the afternoon, but if he had a little sleep in the morning hes down 2-3hrs. Normally up around 3-3.30 and then up until hes down for the night just after 6.

Jeana you could be right!   I did wonder that and also if he is being woken by Beau's loud snoring,a t times, but at the mo he can't go in his room as it's still full of stuff until we have sorted out finishing off the lounge. He is pretty much the same as Sophia with devising his own routine and it is pretty much the same as hers.    I'm out of chocolate I am rather a when it comes to that and it don't last long in the house

LOL I am the same way with chippies.
I think him being in his own room will help when it happens. Soph did not sleep through till we put her in her room....I thing every move and noise we made woke her up.

From memories, Jessica was having 2 (or 3 if she fell asleep in car to or from kindy!) daytime sleep 45 - 1 1/2 hr each and sleeping 7 - 6 at night.  Routine is really important, but remember to be flexible with it as well.

http://www.thesleepstore.co.nz/sleep+information/Infants.html has some great information on sleep routines etc.

Hope this helps.

Sounds totally normal to me. Babies are the opposite of adults, the less they sleep during the day the harder it is to get them to sleep at night and the more likely they will wake continually because they are over tired. At 7 months Dominic was having 3 naps a day from 1 to 1.5 hours and in bed for the night by 6pm. He has never slept through the night, he is two on Wednesday and still doesn't sleep through.
