Did anyone watch...

Yeah it was so so sad That poor family and that poor little girl.

I know, it was awful.

I understand mistakes can happen and everything,and you can't always hold someone to blame, but I can't believe the mistake they made when trying to resuscitate the baby.
Not to mention the 'apology' the parents got. The letter seemed like it was just a formal thing that her bosses (whoever they are) were making her do.

If it were me, I'd be around there bawling apologies, not sending a crappy 2 line letter.

Obviously didn't hear the midwives side or anything, but it's hard not to judge her for what happened.

I really felt for the family. It would be every parents worse nightmare. I agree that apology letter was very poor and completely unacceptable

The only thing I hate about articles like that is the pure lack of detail e.g was the MW her LMC or a ward MW, how long had the MW been practising, how many clients does she take on etc.

I also get annoyed when they throw all MW's in the same basket. They are clearly not all the same and all have different years of experience etc. To me stories like that highlight the need for woman to really check out their MW's etc.

Completely agree. I know my m/w was brilliant and entirely competent, I fully trusted her to give my baby and I great care,and she did.

Summerlamb, it's hard not to worry when you hear things like this eh? Just try to remember that MOST midwives are competent and do a good job, as do Obstetricians.

Best thing to do I think, is to start calling midwives the moment you know you're pregnant, hopefully that way you can see a few and decide who you're more comfortable with, rather than just having to take whoever is left with space available.
Ask around! My m/w was recommended to me by a friend as being really great, and it was true so now I'm recommending her to others also. Use the experiences (good and bad) that other people have had, they can help you judge.

Plus, if at any time you feel they're not doing a good job, and are not happy with the care you are receiving, you can change midwives. Some people don't like to do it, but I figure it's your pregnancy and your baby...you need to be comfortable with and trust the person caring for you and you baby/babies.

it seemed to me though we only heard one side of the story. that annoys me about 20/20 they only screen the side that they think people will want to watch. i have heaps of questions that the story raised but didn't answer. i kind of feel sorry for the MW. shes been labelled negligent etc but what really happened in the delivery room??? I guess we will never really know but we are always really fast to cast the blame to the one we THINK is at fault

Im using the midwife I have this time as she came highly recommended by three Mums on here (one of them has had four babies .. so she must know her stuff lol).

After a terrifying first birth, it was very important to me I choose wisely this time

And I totally agree .. they tried to get her side of the story and she declined to comment .. what should they do?? Not tell the story at all??

yeah but could she due to the investigation? and don't they have to abide by some privacy laws regarding patient info?
Hey don't get me wrong. I feel for the lady that it happened to but we don't know all the facts only hers from her point of view. Is she a dr or really know what was going on in that delivery room?
Again there was more questions than answers that the programme raised. I know it was a shame the LMC didn't respond but by the time they would have had her side after the ladies would anyone actually have given her an open mind to what she had to say.
I'm not sticking up for the LMC but I do believe everyone has the simple right to be innocent until proven guilty.

I took it as they found they were lacking in several areas which they had retrained in but no GUILTY as such.
