Im really keen on trying the new place on Tory St just along from Lone Star. I think its Osterio Del Toro or something like that. It had a FABULOUS review a couple of weeks ago. Full marks on everything (service, menu range etc etc). I would go there.

I love Zibibbo on Taranaki Street. Cafe Istanbul on Dixon Street is good too and really well priced.

Monsoon Poon on Blair Street
Hazel on Roxburgh Street
Capitol (beside the embassy - this is YUM!)
There is also one on Johnston Street, opposite the Black Harp but I can't remember the name - its Divine.
The Chameleon in the Hotel Intercontinental (pricey but also very good)

If you want romantic, i don't think you can get past the White House on O Parade (if the budget holds. Friends recently went to Hippopotamus in the Museum Hotal and thought it was amazing. There's also manon in Newtown which always rates well. And a real favourite of mine for good value and great food is Elements in Lyall Bay

Have you survive to do Lonestar and Strawberry Fare in the same evening From what I remember both places have generous servings
Thank you all for the great suggestions. Now to do some googling and drooling

Matterhorne is great and they don't take bookings so you have as much chance of a table as the next bloke! Same with Boulcott St Bistro.
try this website for some ideas.

Matterhorn was voted best restaurant in NZ by Cuisine. Devine food.
Chow is also one of my personal favourites. I love being able to have a whole lot of different meals.

I have to say Osterio Del Toro is awesome - I went there the night before my wedding with my bridesmaids and it was so good and the atmosphere is great too
