Topic: Shocked!! Posted: 03 May 2009 at 10:13pm |
I was watching C4 today and saw Britney's new music video - If You Seek Amy. Shock horror!!
Has everyone picked up on the phonetics? There are probably millions of nine year old girls singing along to this song, hopefully having no clue what they are saying.
"Love me, hate me, say what you want about me,
But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy..."
And while we're on the topic of inappropriate songs... Lily Allen's "Not Fair" is pretty wrong too!
The things you find bad once you have kids!!!

Lol Kiwilaurie - My Dad never picked up that it was actually 'If you seek Amy' ...for weeks on end he was going around seeing the phonetics and questioning how a song like that could be aired on radio and telly.
Silly man
I too am amazed that she can get away with a song like that, even being titled something different to make it ambiguous, doesn't make it any better now does it?! And I think today's generation clue on much faster to adult life and what sex is, swear words etc...back in my day I wouldn't have been any the wiser though.
If its any consolation my Mummy left me in the freezer aisle of the supermarket when I was just 3.5 years old, singing 'Like a virgin, touched for the very first time' very loudly, accompanied by some pretty provocative dance moves, apparently.

That's it, Jody is never going to listen to the radio again! lol, that's got to be more embarrassing than the standard supermarket tantrum...

I think it is so gross. there is another song that goessomething like "you make my head spin right round when you go down" - fantastic!
I feel like such a prude when i say this kinda stuff, but i really think those songs are gross.

Babe - it took me a while too...say the words slowly, looking away from the PC screen...you will see they 'spell' a swear work that is slang for BD...(hope that helps!)
Lizzle, I'm with you on the 'go down' song...how is that OK???

Personally i like the songs and i think if you seek amy is pretty clever really. You spin me right round the old version was a fav of mine for awhile and i think the new version is good too.
The way i see it is that they are just songs and unless you explain what some of the songs mean to your children you'll prolly find they have no idea what they mean they just like the tune and i dont see any harm in that.
When it comes to swear words and dirty words josh will grow up knowing them and mostly what they mean but told not to use them in some situations or around certain people. Most kids only use them or like those songs because their parents bring them up thinking its naughty or taboo etc which just creates an attraction to them IMHO. I know as a kid my fav song was who the f**k is alice mostly because it said f**k and i was told it was a naughty word.

Couldn't agree more. My 8 year old niece is a HUGE Britney fan. She knows the Amy song off by heart and Womaniser etc and has absolutely no idea what she is singing. She doesn't even think about the words, just likes the melody and beat. She sings "You're a womaniser baby" and points at me! I started to explain what a womaniser was but she just looked at me blankly

Ohhhhhhh *penny drops* I have heard that song many times and was shocked! I thought the things Britney can get away with these days....
Now I get it - not that that makes it any better!
I think the music out there is pretty shocking, even if they dont understand what it means its better not to have it out there at all. I hardly ever listen to the radio, mainly CD's and daddys music at home.

Haha Im glad i know what it means now - since i first heard it I was like OMG this is by far the stupidest song I've listened to in a LONG time...
I remember back in the day when all she wanted was to be a good role model

I think if no-one makes a big deal of it little kids quite often don't even realise what the song even says.
My sister and I were watching Grease a few weeks ago and I realised that I sung along with it for years making up my own words - cause I certainly wasn't singing the right ones to Greased Lighting:
You know that ain't no sh*t we'll be getting lots of t*t
and
You know that I ain't bragging she's a real p*ssy wagon Grease lightning
but yes I was a bit shocked the first time I heard Britney's song as you do tend to think of her having a younger audience.

It's worth pointing out that while the song title is 'If you seek amy' the lyrics have been adjusted for radio play to 'if you see amy'

Ok I just got it - blimey did not realise that's what she was saying.
Dirty Britney.
Did not realise the lyrics to grease were like that either.
