How loud is too loud you think??

My neighbours, for the last hmmmmm hour or have been playing their music SOOOO freaking loud all I can hear is BOOM BOOM BOOM from my lounge, Im going out of my freakin mind and Im so tired! I hardly got any sleep last night cos the people on the other side of us had some kind of drama's last night all I could hear was yelling and swearing and a car alarm etc but thats another story!
Cadens bedroom is on the side that the music is coming from, its not bothering him as he hasnt woken up but I think its too loud and the bass is VERY loud.
Would you call noise control? I know people can play music during the day but surely it cant be patheticly loud!?

Im getting more stressed by the minute! and they show no signs of stopping the damn music,

yes im sure you can do something about it - there is a level to where it is considered a public nuisance. My sister had a super loud car that she was pulled over twice in bcos the noise from it was a public nuisance and she had to modify it to come under a certain level.

Maybe give noise control a ring and say you have a toddler that cant sleep through the noise and you are pregnant and really over the bass!!!!
Some people are so inconsiderate!!!!

Before we moved we had neighbours that would have music so loud our house would vibrate. This only happened 4-5 times within a two month period though. We didn't call noise control when it was in the weekend, as we figured....it was the weeked. I was young once and enjoyed loud music.

But when it was happening in the small hours of the morning during the week we would call noise control straight away.

Good luck...hope you haven't moved to the neighbourhood from hell!

Have you asked them to turn it down? I wouldn't be ringing noise control until I had personally asked them.

Sheena you can absolutely complain during the day. We used to have neighbours like that as well and it drove me nuts! We did ask them once or twice to turn it down but they laughed at us

BTW, apparently the official term is that it is breaching your quiet enjoyment of the property to have to listen to that sort of rubbish all day

Depending on your council, it's usually 10pm on week days and 11pm in the weekends for complaints to be accepted unless it breaches the decible (sp?) levels set by the council (same as the car thing).

It's tricky though as it's easy to start neighbor wars which suck big time. Have you spoken to them politely?

We have only just moved here, and I dont know the neighbours so I didnt want to go over there and ask them to turn it down, I have no idea who theya re or what they are like, ya know?

Im no fuddy duddy and I enjoy loud music myself, and I understand its a weekend etc, but honestly it was so loud and the houses around here are all quite close together so it was like they were playing it right outside my lounge window I think if I didnt have a young child and I wasnt pregnant I would have just been like "meh" but cos Caden was in bed and I wanted to have a lie down, it was just so annoying.
They started playing it at like...9.45-10am and didnt stop until 1pm! They did turn it down during that time, but between 10am and 12 it was so frikkin loud

I dont even know what house it was either, I dont know if it was the people just over the fence, or the ones further down. If it happens again tomorrow, I might ring noise control because I know they dont actually go and speak the people to start with they moniter the noise from the driveway and see if its above the legal decebal(sp?) limit,

See I wouldn't bother going and talking to them first. IMO people should be respectful of others and listening to music really really loudly and not expecting others to be affected would be pretty unlikely and it's definitely inconsiderate.

So why should you show them consideration they haven't shown you?

Asking them first just means that when noise control does turn up they know which of their neighbours snitched on them. Even worse if you ask them and another neighbour calls noise control.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

I would go and talk to them first. My parents have this issue with one of their neighbours. But its petty. She complains to my mother about the noise that my brothers and their friends make and it snormally after the fact. Instead of just going to them and saying can you please turn it down my children are trying to sleep (although we don't think its the kids that are bothered by it) she will wait till the next day and ring mum at work or something. All my brothers and their friends are adults and if you were to say can you please turn the stereo down they would happily ablige, mum does it to them all the time. I think now that if she were to speak to the boys then they probably wouldn't react very nicely because shes been so petty calling noise control etc. We're thinking of going and staying in my brothers sleepout with baby and letting it cry just to annoy her when bubbas here thats how petty it is! What are you gonna complain about my child cos it can't sleep?

We have new neighbours that moved in about 2mths ago and they have band practice etc which doesn't mind me its when they go until 1am and have their amps out on the balcony or so it sounds like that it bothers me. When babys here if they are stil noisy I'm sure dp will be going over there to have words!

i wouldn't talk to them first. kinda makes them end up hating ya. they should be respectful. actually i had the same problem just the other night where it was quite loud (live in an apt complex so it's far more likely to happen) and it was around 2am and it was still going. I couldn't feel it vibrate but I felt it was TOO loud TOO late and wanted to walk downstairs and complain to them. Next time it happens I will be giving my building manager a ring b/c there are flyers everywhere that say NO parties and to be considerate (not playing music too loudly at ANYTIME of day!) so there. Go tell noise control so they can't tell who snitched on them.
