Topic: House Pride Posted: 20 July 2009 at 1:40pm |
I have been thinking about this a bit lately as I ponder on the living situations of a few of my family members and I wonder how many out there are like me and are very house proud? We don't live in the best area of Hamilton but take care of our home. Its clean and tidy most of the time and we enjoy being home and pottering around. I know of a few people who live in absolute filth (and I mean filth like something out of life of grime sometimes) and so don't spend much time at home and to me that just seems silly as why wouldn't you want to keep where you live and spend most of your time in filth. Anyway just wondered and wanted to know what others thought.

My house is clean (we have a cleaner who comes once a week), but cluttered and chaotic - I'd love it to be a little (or a lot) tidier and mess-free but with four young kids and one messy teenager it's just not a happening thing. At least it's fun clutter - toys and books and bits and pieces.
I am quite house proud tho, I won't have people over on a Tues or Wed as the cleaner comes on Thurs and the house is usually pretty grubby by then lol.

My house is what I call organized chaos- clean but cluttery. I cant function with too much around me tho. I will keep bathroom, lounge & kitchen clean toy & chaos free (as much as I possibly can) and bugger the rest LOL- but dare not open my cupboards
My cousin lives in grott- dead flies, fluff, filth- Dirt/grime everywhere. I definately try to avoid the bathroom when I seldomly visit

Yup i'm reasonably house proud too although I do think that a bit of dirt never hurt anyone. we just had a bit of a clean up over the weekend infact.

Our house is clean, but gets untidy really quickly (and we only have 2 kids!). We try to keep on top of the clutter and also try to keep the outside etc as tidy as possible however we aren't the most motivated or talented gardeners and to be honest the house needs a coat of paint.
My ex SIL had a filthy house, I hated visiting because of the smell. I really do not get how people can live in a dirty (not just messy) but filthy house

My house isn't as clean or tidy as I would like and neither is the garden (thanks to two naughty digging dogs), but I dont' think it is filthy and it's not so bad I don't want to be home.
I find that I keep on top of the standard cleaning, i.e vacuum, clean kitchen, bathroom etc but I never manage to have time to clean skirting boards or wash windows or clean the doors and door frames etc. That annoys me, but yet I sit here typing this instead of cleaning them

I'm house proud. When I lived by myself flatting I kept a nice and tidy flat. Since moving in with DH I don't expect to have to clean up after both of us so its slackened off a bit. Our kitchen has until lately been always messy and rather nasty sometimes because I decided that could be DH's problem but this is much better now. I try and keep on top of outside too but in winter its not nice to be out there

Glad to hear I am not the only one with filthy relations! My house is no where near 'show home' material but when I visit someone I don't want to feel uncomfy cos the house is filthy I remember when I used to stay at people's house whom I knew had cockroaches I used to go home and wash everything again and then leave suitcase outside and spray with a can of fly spray cos I didn't want to bring any home

I'm house proud too, though I never fully realised how much muck comes with kids (Well DF also haha). I try and keep on top of it most days or then its takes weeks to recover and get the house clean again! We have two ranchsliders too, so lots of fingerprints arrrgh!
I have to admit I've been to a few house that smell bad and are filthy, yuck

I'm not completely clean, but I keep it in a reasonable state, its normally papers and stuff lying all over the place. I definitely wouldn't live in filth and get annoyed when theres dishes in the kitchen although it may only be a few plates and glasses it still annoys me and i have to do them and wipe the bench! We only have a small house so a little bit of mess looks like alot

Im very houseproud as well! I dont have a totally spotless "nothing out of place" house, but its always clean and tidy.
Im am VERY particular about my kitchen, it has to be clean all the time, and I try to rinse and put things in the dishwasher as I go, and before I go to bed at night it has to be spotless, and in the lounge the cushions have to be all straight and the toys put away lol
When Caden is up and playing the toys are spread everywhere and I dont care at all, but once he has gone to bed for the night, I like to have a clean lounge etc
We dont have much of a backyard or front yard so we dont have much to worry about there, but there is no clutter out there or anything.
I couldnt stand living in a smelly dirty house And I hate going to places that are dirty and yuck cos Caden LOVES putting everything in his mouth

I'm pretty houseproud but the new place is pretty cluttered because we haven't finished unpacking (still).
Hopefully once we're sorted it will get easier.

I am a clean freak! In fact, we are building a house at the moment, and I have made a lot of choices based on what is easy to clean, what will look clean/dirty etc, especially in the bathroom and kitchen. Drove DH mad.
Unfortunately our rental is small and therefore cluttered, especially with baby stuff. I honestly think I might go mad before our house is ready as I like things to NOT be cluttered.
The house gets messy (kid messy) every day, but it is always tidy again before I go to bed.
Like you Heather, I don't know how some people can bear to live surrounded by dirt. Mess, yes, but dirt no. I have rellies where I would prefer not to use their bathrooms or have a cup of tea if possible!

Our house is clean. DH has OCD (I believe, not confirmed as yet ) Even the shed and laundry are clean lol. There is never a day that goes by without the vacuuming being done (usually twice a day with the kids!) and the washing is always done. DH cant stand the sight of wet washing.
It really is hard sometimes, last night I left some books in the bookshelf and when DH got home from work last night he moved them and put them in my wardrobe. My wardrobe is the only place that isnt clean, cause thats where DH puts everything that I dont put away properly.
Same with the bin in Jacksons room, Im forever putting a nappy in it, and DH is right behind me putting it in the kitchen one. What is the point of having a bin in a childs room if im not allowed to put a nappy in it? LOL.
There is even a place for the remote at night, which is strategically placed on the coffee table. He will even fold and refold Janayas school stuff I get ready in the evenings, I should just throw it all in a pile and leave it for him as hes going to fold it again anyway!
He EVEN told me off the other day for not rotating Jacksons bottles, I wondered what on earth he was yapping on about, and he showed me that every time I select a bottle from the clean range I should always rotate the bottles around so that I give all the bottles a chance at being used. I told him I just grab any and not just the front one lol.

Sheza I have one of those too!! I am so like an eagle every time we go anywhere ready to swoop and prevent eating of something gross.
Laurie what a great idea!! I may have to get your tips if we ever build our own place
Kaiz I think that would drive me batty!
I'm now off to write me a list of things to do tomorrow now. DH is a shift worker so I do all the big stuff when he's on days.

My house i definatly not as clean or tidy as I would like- the outside is terrible but we have done nothing with it as we are planning to renovate the whole lot, which will be happening within the next month, so yay! We do keep the lawns mowed tho, and keep most of the weeds down, out the front anyway!
The inside is pretty clean and, but having such a grotty old house ie- holes in the red floral carpet etc, it never looks very clean,..but yay for renovating. It will all be finished and on the market within 2 months!

Hmm I am house-proud, but my standards have dropped since having kids. Before children, the house was spotless. But it was must easier to keep clean and tidy. Our house is clean (we also have a cleaner once a week) and I tidy everyday, but it's only the kids toys, and blankets they drag around the house. I HATE having a messy kitchen so keep on top of that. I don't clean the windows and sills as often as they need to be though, nor the skirtings. Spring cleaning is literally only done "in spring". I don't have the time or energy and don't see it as a necessity. The outside is a mess at the moment with being winter and leaves everywhere, but that's Dh's domain, and he can clean that up. In summer I potter around out there and it's tidy most of the time.
My sisters are OCD in my mind, and their houses are spotless and cleaned everyday! If one of my sister's is having people over, she cleans the toilet before and after they come. To me, I feel sorry for the kids cos it feels like they can't really "live" in their own home. And because i know how clean conscience they are, i don't feel like I can relax when we're visiting as I can feel my sister cringe if a crumb is dropped. They are forever cleaning their ceilings, windows and any other crevice you can think of. I can think of so many better way to be spending my time!
