I hadn't thought anout it until reading a thread in the preggy forum.
We are going to be away form home for 7 weeks and plan on having DD in a portacot for that time. We have bought a brand new phil and teds traveler as we will be travelling a bit so was nice and handy.
But, now I am concerned about DD not being in a proper bed.
What do you guys think? Will it be bad for her? shall I explore other options?
I dont see the harm? When they are little they seem to sleep anywhere.
Both our girls have ended up just using a (regular) portacot at home and we have never had a problem.
We had Callum in the P&T traveller for 4 weeks while we were back in NZ recently and he slept really well, it wasn't a problem at all. The only downside of that particular cot (IMO) is that it's right on the floor and in cold, drafty houses in Wellington and Chch it wasn't really ideal.
I don't think it will be "bad" for her hun. Loads of people use portacots long term for loads of different reasons. It's not The Ideal, but it's a bed and a space to call her own
I don't consider 7 weeks while on holiday long term - I think that's just what they were designed for! When we go away and use the portacot I just pop a thick woolen blanket under the bottom sheet when I make it.
We had DS in one till he was 6 months old till he went into a big boy bed he is absolutly fine, and DD is currently in one for atleast another month before we put her into her cot.
we took Rhyley away at 4months till 6 months to the UK and he only slept in a portacot and hes all fine.
They advise not long term i guess to cover their butts as not as safe as normal cots and the matteresses aren't as good BUT as some have said they have used long term with no worries at all.
