Pregnancy Vitamins

Hey there, i think there was a post about this a while ago, you're probably thinking "isn't it a bit late for her to be thinking about preg vitamins NOW?" lol. I'm on iron but want to start getting a few more vits on board so hopefully i don't get as horribly sick, white and puffy as i did last time after i had paris. but which ones are best - has anyone tried both sorts? which are smaller?, nicer tasting?, better value?, more efficient? whatever..

my midwife has put me on healthries multi vitamins for pregs they have been doing the trick and aswell as my iron tablets ive been feeling great

I took Thompsons Pregnacare with Maya, and they were great because I couldn't keep anything down the whole time so at least I knew she was getting her nutrients. My uncle used to be the president of the National Charter of Health Practitioners (naturopaths etc.) and he says the Thompsons are the best.

Atm I'm taking something called Pregavit which is a cheaper generic version from the chemist since we are TTC, but once I am pregnant will probably switch to the Thompsons again.

I was recommended Elevit. HAve been taking them since 1 week after finding out about pregnancy. They cost about $90.00 for 100 tablets, so its about 80 cents per day.....I feel great on them.

I am on Elevit as well. I think I paid $33 for 30 tablets.
I have Southern Cross and they said it is not covered....
Kerry where did you buy yours, they seem cheeper.

See, my Elevit was prescribed and Southern Cross said that Elevit is not part of their list so it is not covered. I know Folic Acid is covered.
They said all pregnancy cost is covered upto $250.
But so far I had 2 scans and they were both free. In Manurewa THC they do all pregnancy scans for free. Thank God for that.

When I first got them, I was like wow that is expensive. I was on Centrum before and got 100 tabs for $27.95.

we are with southern cross and robs work pays for it. Its the regular care so it covers gp visits,perscriptions and surgical and certain amounts towards specialists. I dont think we need this kind of cover but seeing that its all paid for then its okay. If we did have to pay i would just go for surgical. So if we needed anything done urgently we wouldnt have to wait for the public system.

I have Ultracare 100 with Southern Cross, which is $117 a month for Maya and I. It covers 100% of the cost ofGP visits, prescriptions up to an annual limit (which is really high), Specialist visits (up to a limit of about $200 per visit) and surgical. It also covers $100 worth of dental and Optical each year.
We don't have medical insurance for Mona, and she has had lots of problems with her ears, and we have spent years in the public system waiting months to see specialists and have surgery etc. She has been waiting for an op since Feb 03. It is so reassuring to know that with Maya everything is covered, and with all her allergies etc. we can see private specialists because Southern Cross pays. I also get up to $1000 per pregnancy for related costs, which was good to know when I had Maya as we had to have a specialist consult at 36 weeks.
Southern Cross won't cover pre-existing conditions (that you already have) or anything diagnosed within a set period of taking out insurance, but if you register your newborn within a short time after birth they are covered for everything, even problems that they are born with.
I'm in love with Southern Cross atm as they are paying for me to have oral surgery to remove my yucky wisdom tooth

southern cross seems to be quite good. i don't have insurance (yet) but before having hannah i was under my dad's policy adn they paid for me to have my wisdom teeth out. it would have cost a fortune otherwise because i had to travel to hamilton to see an oral surgeon. (damn crooked teeth!!)

they also have quite good deals in their magazines that they send out. i was after some new glasses and they had a special discount with OPSM on frames and lenses. (altho it worked out cheaper to buy some from visique even without a discount!)
