Topic: Is it Time? Posted: 22 March 2010 at 12:38pm |
Do you think it is time that maybe OHbaby have some moderators.
It is getting bigger every day and the admin staff have much better things to do with their time.
there have been a few weird things - like the troll on the 1st birthday thread - that maybe should have been brought to the attention of admin before it got so involved!
anyone agree or think i am just being a dill!

I agree
Some threads get out of hand pretty quickly, it'd be nice to have someone around who could just make them "disappear" or delete the posts and remind people to keep it nice...

I'll sit on the fence for that one. I've been on forums before when there have been moderators and they were lovely people but if they had personal issues with others they would be harder on those people and noticed that certain topics would get over moderated

I may be going crazy, correct me if I'm wrong - cause I'm sure there is a Moderators group - I noticed a member classed as 'moderators group' the other day

I think there should be, more for the advertising not the closing of topics that should be an admin thing still.

I don't know, I actually don't think there are any major problems on this site. Apart from the troll the other day which was actually just kind of weird/funny rather than offensive, I don't really see a lot of posts that require moderating. I think we need to remember that just because something isn't as we think it should be it isn't actually wrong. I often see people getting worked up about things on here where in actual fact it is just because it is slightly different to the norm not because it is wrong. I know a lot of older posters want the site to remain how it was, but that just isn't realistic.

Yep I agree!
Also I think that you should have to login to read any post. But that's just me.
Mamma2N, there is an 'admin group' but that just means that the person is an OhBaby employee.
The way the admin/moderating is at the moment leaves me thinking that 'Big Brother' is watching. I'd much prefer if moding was more visible. (i.e. instead of deleting a post , the mod just edit it and state why reasons why).

I've just gone and checked - instead of 'Senior member' / 'Admin Group' etc - this member's is 'Moderator Group'

Bizzy - I thought this a while a go and you took the micky when I said it, but I completely agree - as I said last time, being the pregnant does not give people the right to be b**chy and the moderators should remind them to be nice (I think I said ladylike which was poo pood)

As a bit of a side note I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't even realise it was a troll at first in the 1st Birthday thread. I just thought there was someone out there really like that
Moderators: I don't know what I think about that really. I'm a bit torn. Generally things run pretty well here I think. But when they get out of hand they really seem to get out of hand.
I would like it if we had another locked level thread though - like a gen sect where you have to have a certain amount of posts. I know this has been vetoed in the past but now that we index so high in Google searches there are a lot of people that get stalked.
And yes I know that the internet is a public place etc. etc. but the help and advice you can get here is invaluable and it's sad when people can only PM a select few to get it.

i agree - which i suppose is why it would be hard to pick people for the job.
Mind you if more people selected the "report post" button on posts then maybe we wouldnt need mods.
raspberryjam i must have a bad memory i cant remember that - the ladylike thing rings a bell somewhere though.

DH is on some bike forum and those guys are b**chier than a bunch of school girls. They have a thread that is called mindless drivel or something. If your bleeting on about something irrelevant or offensive the thread gets moved to there.
I think so many people have to report it for the moderators to move it which is a good idea as its not just a moderators opinion - but a general concensus
Id like to see something like that - I often have to bite my tongue but some people are just nasty and obviously need someone to do it for them

yeah i found it ...
maybe its not more moderators that are needed but rather for more of us to report posts that we find offensive, or nasty or against forum rules....
so i was probably just being a dill - again!

I'm with summerlamb, I thought the troll on the 1st bday thread was funny!
I've never found anything offensive on this site and if posts get out of hand they tend to get reported and deleted by admin anway.

I must be really slow as I missed the troll and when I went back to see what you were talking about it was gone. Mind you I saw some of the posts on that thread and decided to steer clear

I'ma big fan of the 'report post' button - it allows for things to be flagged to admin even if they're not yet an all out brawl. I''ve done it once when there was a thread that was obviously going to get nasty pretty quickly and other times when it's already nasty.
