easter presents?

Was reading some threads on trademe about how much people spend on their kids at easter and was wondering if that was a trademe thing, or everyone does it.

I spent $10 on the boys...both together. Would have spent more but they will get eggs from my mum, my nana, as well as my dad. And they got a bag of eggs this week from an aunt, and another mini eggs from another aunt. so for me a largish egg + a couple of small mini-eggs was enough.

ONline however, people have been talking about buying presents like clothes etc for "easter presents". have you heard of this? and do you do it?

Yip clothes and PJs.......my MIL buys PJs and a few clothes for the kids and one small egg, but i think this year she went a bit crazy with the egg side.........hey im not complaining cos my children get more clothes that i dont have to find the money for and would rather them get more clothes than choc

I do like the idea of buying a book at easter.......I think easter is another family time of the year and what better way than sitting down with a new book for your child and reading........and it feels like more of a treat than just buying a book randomly.

As for eggs, One carton of cadburys hollow eggs, 15 in a pack $7.50 those are for hiding around(for both boys) and one themed Egg.........this year my son is into hotwheels so has got a hotwheel egg for $10 i think it cost.....my eldest is 14 so he just gets a block of cadburys choc.........oh i did also get one packet of marshmallow eggs each too, so not much over $10 each really. didnt do a book this year cos i struggled to get the eggs already.

I dont think they should get toys for easter though

When Esme is old enough to understand easter she'll probably get a 'present' instead of eggs due to intollerences. But if she was getting eggs she wouldn't get a present as well iykwim.

As a kid we got a large hollow egg (cabury cruchie/buttons etc) plus some little ones. Mum used to put the little ones out in a trail for us to follow to our big egg.

We haven't got any for Daniel. We will get him an egg next year but definitely no presents

I have heard of kids getting new winter PJs for Easter, but we never did this.

We used to get one big egg and either the little caramel ones or some of the marshmallow eggs. - We'd get them from our grandparents too so there was a lot of chocolate.

i have never gotten a present for easter, only eggs.
This year the "easter bunny" is bringing DD 1 hollow egg in her favorite colour pink. I'm going to put a ribbon around it if i can find one. She goes a little silly if she eats too much sugar so with that 1 and what she gets from other people i think it is more than enough. I also don't want her to get to expect alot of presents/eggs at times like this and xmas.

liz thats funny. yeah i was quite surprised gabriel knew so much as my explanations are a bit garbled. i tried to refrain from mentioning pagan rituals so i didnt confuse the issue too much!

Growing up 'Easter Bunny' would bring us a big egg and a few little ones, usually themed to our age / what we were into - no toys. However last year DS was 7/8mths so we got him one of those activity table thingies, was going to get one anyhow so just called it an Easter present! He was too young for it to be an issue.

This year I've swipped the cardboard basket from an egg DH has been scoffing and filled with with cotton wool and those fluffy yellow chicks and he's got one egg to sit in the middle... actually its less of an egg and more of a milky bar cow LOL he must have slung it in the shopping trolley one day cos I unpacked it when I got home and was like Ummmm Where Did THIS come from ha ha ha. And I have brought him some books, but again I was going to get them anyway (desperate for new bedtime story material!) so figured I'd add them in as an Easter thing. I quite like the idea of shifting the focus off the chocolate so might keep up the small egg plus book tradition.

Here in the UK kids get new PJ's for Xmas, usually in their Xmas Eve hamper which was a totally new concept for me!! Xmas Eve hampers usually have a Xmassy DVD, story, mug and hot choccie, edible treat and new slippers / pjs.

Its never-ending these 'new' traditions!!

I only ever got Easter Eggs.

I have only got dd a small easter egg with egg cup & spoon. My mum wanted to buy her ester eggs i said no she doesnt need them she wont eat them anyway so she showed up with socks & gumboots which is awesome because she needs them.

I know of a few people that do the winter pj thing. I will only ever do choc though
