OK, this may be a silly question.... but do you have to go to your LMC or do they come to your home for visits?

You go to them until you have the baby and then they do a few home visits before Plunket takes over.

It depends tho, coz the Domino midwives up here do antenatal home visits, you alternate between going to clinic and them coming to you.

I always went to mine for antenatal appts.

My MW came to me for the initial visit and then from 30 weeks onwards she started coming to me at home aswell...so I guess it depends on their 'rules'

Totally depends on the midwife. Ideally she would do what suits you but it depends how busy she is and her philosophys.

My chch midwife saw me at various locations antenatally and my home postnatally.

down here they see you for ALL appointments at home...but then they also like to get you to give birth at home too...WTF?

My independant mw would come to me, but I work just around the corner from her house so mostly I visit her simply because it's easier for us both. However she has made a point of coming out to me a couple of times at weekends so that DH can be there and hear the heartbeat etc. Once I give up work she will come to me.

Thanks for all the replies. It's interesting to see that it really does depend on the midwife.

It'll be a lot easier for me to have home visits, because I don't drive, but it's not a huge issue if they don't. I'll speak to a few local midwives and see what they say.

I visit my midwife at her clinic- but as she shares it with a group of midwives she can only use the room on 2 days a week that dont really suit me which is a pain- I should have found out what the arrangements for visits would be before getting her as my midwife really.
Last time my midwive came to our house for every visit, but then we changed midwives at 32 weeks preg as my midwife got a new job, and that midwife I had to go to the hosp to see, and when she was on holiday I saw her replacement at a Dr's surgery!

I visit my MW at their clinic on her specific clinic days. She comes to me after I have the baby though for the first visit I think.

My SIL's MW came to her at home for each appointment.

My MW can do either. Whatever is easiest for her clients as long as they will be at home on the days that she does home visits.

I pretty much always go to her unless im really not feeling up to it.

My Midwife is the last in her group of midwives that still does full home visits throughout and post pregnancy. She is going on leave for a month now so will have to see her back up midwife at the clinic.

I personally think that the midwife coming to your home is a great thing as then they can see the envionment that you are bringing baby into, is it safe and clean and warm etc. I wonder if having midwives do home visits would help with the child abuse problem sometimes!
Sorry for the ramble....

Wow I had no idea that home visits before birth were common. Not so bad at the moment as my MW is 2 blocks away but she's moving to Albany in a month

I have the same midwife as last pregnancy and she comes to my house everytime. The one before her for DD 11 had a room at her house set up so I went out to her - she lived in the country and was a huge pain in the end to go out to her.

I went to mine until I was heavily pregnant and then she did some of the appointments at my house and all the post baby ones were at home.
