Okay so three kids later and i dont recall having had any with the boys and was wondering if someone could describe them for me.
are they sort of like a gripping, think i need to go toilet urgently kind of pain? or am i confusing them with the real i need to go to the toilet urgently pain?
so many mixed signals from my poor battered body! |

My after pains seem to feel a lot like early labour pains - in fact I've just popped 2 panadols to keep those at bay. For some reason they are worst for me at this hour of the night after expressing |

Edited cos I was being stupid.
Mine were like really bad period pains and in the first few days I could actually feel my uterus contracting. Have written more about the gas pain in the other thread.

Yep like really bad period pain/early labour - needed panadol for a few days and I NEVER normally take anything like that. Way worse second time around too, which I had been warned about. |

I had them after having Ryan and Katelyn and to me they felt like bad period pain, it happened to me while i was breastfeeding and for a little while after.
I believe we get them because its our uterus contracting back down, and breastfeeding helps this process. I think |

Yup mine were definitely worse the second time too. It was just like contractions again for me.
Although I do remember having a few mad dashes to the loo, only to find I couldn't go. don't know if they were the same thing though, sorry!

I had a c-section and I had those pains too. I'm not sure what it's like after a natural birth but the contracting of the uterus sort of pulls on your wound a bit and gives you that pain too. Not nice! |

I had a c-section too and I had two types of pain - the horrible period pain which I put down to afterpains and also a horrible crampy pain like when you're about to have diarrhea. I think your bowel gets a bit stuffed and also the voltaren can cause the squirts.
Also you can get a bit of bruising to your bladder as it's so close to the uterus - I didn't get this but a friend did.

Never had a Vaginal birth so can't compare sorry.

Funnily enough I had them quite badly after Elle, mainly when feeding (apparently not common after a first baby). It felt like a mild contraction / braxton hicks but the tummy is empty. It was mainly tummy, not lower back pain. My uterus contracted super quick so I guess that is why I got them.

I never had them with the other two. So having hideous ones after I'd had Cooper was a real shock to the system. They hurt like anything. From memory they stopped after the 2nd night.

I must be the opposite lol, I had shocking after pains after Maya was born, they had me in tears while I was feeding. Expected to get them worse after the gremlins with them being my second/third and with my uterus being so much bigger, but I hardly got any. I did retain part of the placenta, not sure if that slowed down my uterus contracting?

I never had any after pains until number 3! To me they were like really bad contractions just not lasting as long. They were worse when i was breastfeeding. |
