Topic: Baby names Posted: 02 March 2006 at 12:36pm |
What do you think of having two middle names for bubs?? Im wanting to have two middle names only because I want to name baby after my family and want to include both dad and hubbys dad or mums and hubbys mum in middle names.
Middle names are not really used on a daily basis so I dont think it would be too confusing.

i think two middle names can be nice especially for the reason you want to name it! even hyphenating too is an idea.... for either first or middle.....
i have my heart set on naming this baby after my grandma who recently passed away (so for that reason would love it to be another girl!) and at the same time would like to include my other grandma (who i never got to meet, my dad's mum, who apparantly i take after alot looks and personality )

my daughter has 2 middle names. one is a name we chose and the other is a chinese name. (a tradition in DH's family as his mum is chinese) its a bit long when writing her full name on forms etc but i like that she has a bit of tradition.

Both my kids only have one middle name - Kiya's is Mary, same as mine, and Josiah's is Phillip, same as Nathaniel. My brother- & sister-in-law have given their 3 kids two middle names each... my sis-in-law said it's only annoying when you need to write all their full names down!

Arna's full name is "Arna Charlie-McLean Judson"... McLean is davids family tradition and Charlie is after a friend of mine that passed away (I wanted it 2 be her first name but had to compromise!)
Anyway - wait until Emma sees this post, Maya has the longest middle name i have ever seen!!

Kellie, I think two middle names is a great idea, especially if you can't decide on just one. You are right they are not used everyday. Shawn has two middle names (william don) and so does my sister. It is more common than people think!

I've never really thought about giving our bubs more than one middle name actually, might have to give that some thought - we actually had the middle name we wanted for either a boy or a girl decided well in advance, as it is 'unisex' - Alexandra / Alexander (after DH's oldest brother).

Xanda only has one middle name and it is Pierce. It is my brothers name and he passed away 6 years ago so I wanted it so that Xanda always has a part of his uncle with him. We were considering a second middle name but the poor boy already has two names that are hard for ppl to spell.

taine's middle name is Jason, after Lewis' close friend, and jake's is walter - after my grandfather who passed away. If we had had a girl we had decided to give her a maori/cook island name (lewis' family) and a japanese name (we lived in japan for sseveral years). But with boys, we had a hard enough time agreeing on the first names!!

Jacob is Jacob Russell Bruce, after my dad, who is dying and Rods Dad who is dead. Like you said, they aren't used everyday, so not too much of a big deal. My friends baby has 4 middle names...

The only thing with multiple middle names is if you want to do the same thing with subsequent kids... you start to run out of family names! (at least, that's what my sis-in-law said when deciding names for #3)

Andy's family has a tradition of maori middle names (who knows why, there is not a speck of maori in them?!?) so Quinn is Quinn Ariki and this baby, if it sticks, will have a maori middle name too.
I think you can have as many middle names as you fancy, I always felt I needed more. I have none, only a hyphenated first name. Although watch out for what they spell! Andy's sisters initials spell SAG and I always thought that was unfortunate!

Okay, so Maya is Maya Grace Te Irirangi Marama. Definitely a mission when I am filling in forms etc., but I picked Grace because I liked it and Willie picked Te Irirangi Marama which is a family name on his side and means the point where heaven and earth meet.
If we have a boy next his middle names will be Shakur Wiremu John Makoare - Shakur after Tupac Shakur a big influence on my writing (like Maya's namesake Maya Angelou), Wiremu after Willie, John after my brother and Makoare is a family name on Willie's side. But no idea where I will find a girls name that long if we have another girl.
But I don't have a clue what we'll have for first names...

Jezsika, that is a beautiful name. Very, very girly and super cute! I love it!!
We have a few names picked out for first names - Ashlee, Sophie and Kate. The Lee from Ashlee is my mums middle name, and also my sister is Haylee so it will be nice to carry that through for a third generation.
Middle names we've picked Jayde and possibly Jean as Jean is the feminine form of John - my dad who passed away in 2003. Jean is also my mums aunty, my dads aunty, and is also hubbys gran's name.

All of our kids have 2 middle names
Blair is, Blair Michael Andrew Beeching after my dad and my brother.
Ryan is, Ryan Mark Shane Beeching after my grandad and my hubby.
Katelyn is, Katelyn Shari Anne Beeching after my sisters middle name and Anne is my middle name.
It does get abit hard thou when you are filling out forms cause they don't seem to leave you much space.
