I am trying to figure out if I will go over or under my due date for my second baby.

My first baby was an accident. ...so our dates were very estimated, I really didn't know when we'd concieved or let alone the correct dates of my LMP
At the "20 week" scan they scanned me as being more like 21 weeks but they said stick with your current dates.
She was born supposedly 10 days early & she had NO vernix on her.
I always wondered if I went over due, I have tried many times to try & figure it out & she could have been easily 10 days late in my figurings.
So if your baby was on time, early or late, how much vernix did they have on them? Or is it different for each pregnancy?

My boy was 2 days early (EDD worked out from early scan at 7 weeks) and had no vernix at all. His skin was slightly dry and peeling but not too much.

I've had 3 babies......first one I was induced nearly 2 weeks early, 2nd one was 4 days overdue, and 3rd I was induced the day after she was due......all had no vernix or very very little that it was not noticable at all.
Also remember that scans do have their margin of error.

Isla was 5 days late - I was 100% sure of dates and early scan at 8 weeks confirmed the dates also,...she had quite a bit on her too.

Jack was 1 day early and was covered in it. I had no idea about dates either so we just took the scan date.

Caprece was 3 days early (but I'd say more like on time because how long my cycles were) and she had very little.

Mine were all early (10 days, 3 1/2 weeks and 8 days) and all covered in vernix. Maya's vernix was yellow from the meconium in her waters so I got a fright when I first saw Sienna and hers was white.

BTW I assumed Chiara would be early coz Maya was (gremlins were induced) but when we were induced at 38,6 my midwife said she could well have gone overdue given the state of my cervix.

Lauren was over 2 weeks early and was covered in it! My m/w commented when she was born that she was well early as she was so white, as we to were not 100% with our dates having no idea when my last LMP was or even knowing when I fell pregnant

   Thanks everyone...

I am crossing fingers that I go over due as if I go early I run the risk of having bubs on the MIL's birthday & that would be the worst thing ever.

This time we are bang on with dates, cycle lengths & BD dates....so it will be interesting to see what happens this time.

Call me silly, but what's the link between early/overdue babies and vernix?

Hannah was a day early (according to LMP and 12 week scan) and had quite a lot on her back and tummy, not much everywhere else.

From 20 weeks the baby gets covered in vernix (the white stuff) to protect the skin in the womb. Usually by the due date most of it's worn off, so theoritically an early baby will have more than a late baby.

Alia had none on her, I have photo's of her "flying" out & the ones on my chest immediately after & she's definitely got nothing on her, but according to what dates we were going with she was 10 days early.
I'm going to be crossing my legs & holding this baby in until it's due date

Maddi was 3 days over due and was covered in it! It took us about a week to wash it off ( she had the softest skin after that though)
Keira still goes on about, when Maddi was in hospital she was playting with playing with playdough and got it all over her face "that was silly wasn't it"

Daniel was apparently a week early and had none. Everyone commented that he looked overdue.

Vernix is also a genetic thing. Some bubbas start "loosing" it earlier than others.
