Topic: Boy name help Posted: 11 November 2009 at 8:57pm |
Just wanting your (honest!) opinions....
What do you think about the name Lucas, with Louie for short?
I know Louie isn't an 'obvious' nickname for Lucas, but I love both those names... not really keen on Luke (short for Lucas) or Louis (pronounced with the s, 'long' for Louie lol).
At the moment we have Harrison, he gets called Harry.
Any other suggestions for boy names? Can't be too long cos he'll have 2 middle names (Elliott Te Whiwhi), and our last name begins with K.
We do quite like names that can be shortened, but that's not a prerequisite... but I've got this thing where I have to like both the long and the short version lol. We like names that are easy to spell/pronounce, but not tooooo common.
Other names I quite like but we prob won't have for various reasons:
Zac (DH doesn't really like it)
Charlie
Alfie
Archie
Also he'll *probably* have red hair, so it's gotta suit a cute wee redheaded boy

I like the name Lucas and Louie for short is very cute. I know of one Lucas but spelt Lukas and he gets called Lukie for short, personally I like Louie better.

I really like Alfie at the moment! And Archie although that seems to be becoming really popular here amongst the English mums - so perhaps only a matter of time before it's that popular in NZ (if it's not already?)
Couldn't you have Louie with no "long" version? Just have that as his official name? Also you can pronounce Louis with the "ie" rather than the "is" IYGWIM.
I quite like Lucas as well but I prefer Louie.

It's DH who thinks he needs to have a 'grown up' name as well lol.
Is there any other name that Louie could be short for? Doesn't have to be totally obvious (like I've never heard of Lucas being shortened to Louie before).

Have been trying to think of names that would "go" with Harry IYKWIM...
What about -
Albert - Bertie
Edward - Ed / Eddie
Jacob - Jake
William - Will
Elijah - Eli
Joseph - Joe
Its so much fun thinking of names - am sure he is going to be another cute lil redhead just like the gorgeous Harry x x

Thanks Italiah!
Archie and Alfie are cute aren't they! I do have a thing for English names though lol. Pity I don't like the 'long' versions... Archibald and Alfred.... !
Kiwisj oh yeah I've seen Louie spelt Louis and Luis (they're more 'correct' I think).
Man naming a child is an important job eh!

I love the name Lucas, and think it could easily be shortened to Louie. A lot of the time when they go by a shortened name you never know where the name actually came from.
Would Louie also end up being shortened to Lou...
(Keira gets called Lou all the time)
I also think Edward is a really cute name.
And thats about all I can think of tonight - I have never been good at finding boys names.

I loved Artie (short for Arthur).
I am hearing you on the name thing being ateacher rules out so many names. I taught in a boys school and ended up with 2 boys so finding names was near impossible hence ours are not that common.
I also wanted names that could be shortened as Mac's name is shortened. I did a post about it so will attempt to link it for you.

Aww Artie is cute too!
We had a friend called Justus whose nickname was Arfie, makes no sense but there you have it
I always liked Noah for a boys name, and Josiah... but DH didn't like either.
Only slight OT.
