Topic: post partum bleeding? Posted: 20 November 2006 at 1:00pm |
ok sorry if TMI but this is bugging me so here goes...
I had bleeding as usual for about 4 weeks after I gave birth then it stopped for two weeks. At the 6 week mark I had bleeding for about a week which I assumed was my period come back (even tho I am breastfeeding and they tell me it is rare to get your period back so soon if you are b/f)... andway then I was fine for a week and then I started bleeding again, it has been about 5 days now, almost like I have had another period but it cant be so soon again right..?
Is this normal...?
ps - started the mini pill about 10 days ago too

Yeah i had pretty much the same thing with PPB especially when i went on the mini pill. I stopped taking the pill and didnt get my period for over a month (wee panic there lol) then had a month or so of normal cycle, started the pill again and its all up the sh*t again and have been bleeding on and off since. Have to agree, mini pill sucks.

It probably is the mini pill, although I've been too frightened to start taking mine yet. Not keen on the side effects, and Maya is my mini pill baby (I have learned that antibiotics+pill=baby).
It might pay to double check with your GP tho just in case it's retained products. My bleeding slowed around 2 weeks or so, then started again with a vengeance at 3 weeks until I finally passed a huge piece of membranes at 4 1/2 weeks that the midwife said must have been blocking up the works. Since that came out the bleeding has stopped completely and I had a scan on Fri which is all clear.

That sounds like exactly the pattern I had! It sorted itself out after a few months

I had the same thing too, without the assistance of the minipill so I think it can be normal. I was told it is within the realm of 'normal' to have PPB up to 12 weeks.

I had that too... bled for what seemed like FOREVER!
Also, bleeding can slow down and stop for a few days, then you do something that is even slightly active and it just starts again. So it could also partly be that.

Yeah i was told that too - because the bleeding is from like a big wound inside you where the placenta was attached.. it's a bit raw, so it goes through all the same stages as any normal 'wound' picture if you had really grazed your arm bad.. ie bleeding, then slows, turns to icky coloured stuff, and eventually the bleeding/icky stuff stops and goes away and things heal.. but all the same, it can break back down and start bleeding again too until it's all healed up... that's why alot of people say that around day 10 Postpartum their bleeding gets kinda heavy again even if it had previously tapered off.. cos that's when things can break down a bit more in the healing process.

Not to thread-jack here, but why is the mini-pill so evil? I'm soon to pick up my script and have only used the regular pill before.

Because it is only based on one hormone, not two like the combined pill.. some women find it can muck around and wreak havoc with their cycles

It's evil coz if you take antibiotics and take the mini pill you end up with a Maya...

If you replace the anti-biotics with alcohol and missing the 3 hour window, you get Hannah (And good luck with that one!)

Hey Frantic...I'm bleeding again and as you already know I'm on the normal pill. I think mine is *just* my second period (started yesterday) as I'm on the sugar pills at the moment.
It is another really heavy one though!

It made me bleed and bleed and bleed, my GP couldn't work out for a while why I was bleeding so much. I have finished the PPB (had been about 10 or so weeks and then I went on it and it screwed me up big time. I am very anti any pill but that is just me as I have tried a number of different pills and none of them worked for me.

Frantic a lot of people do get their periods straight back again even when exclusively b/fing. For me, I have had it back at 2mos (with Hannah) and 3mos (with Briona)... so I envy all those people who don't get it back for 6-8mos!!
All the extra bleeding you have though does sound like minipill side-effects. I think it takes a little while to settle but I haven't had any personal experience with it (yea that's how you get preg 4 times in 3 years lol) - so I'd put in a call to the Doctor's office just to check everything is okay.

Ok not thread jacking...but I had bled for 2-3 weeks after Zaara and nothing since then. But on Sat (two weeks ago)...I jumped in shower and bend down to pick up some thing and felt cramps...like period....soon (TMI)...Several chuncks of brown blood clots came out...and then the cramps were gone...still no period.
I am still b/feeding ......is this normal??

Whoa Roksana that sounds like you've had an early miscarriage. I say that because it was "chunky" and brown, ie old. It may pay to talk it over with your Doctor. Also watch for more cramps/loss this week.
You're lucky to not have your period back yet with Zaara over 1yo!!! I'm one of these women who get it back almost immediately
