Topic: Irrational fears Posted: 25 May 2007 at 9:38am |
I think we've had a thread similar to this before, but I just realised I have some crazy fears.
1. When coming to a traffic light intersection and I have a green light, I'm really paranoid that an ambulance/fire truck/police car is going to come blaring down the street with it's lights and sirens on and smack straight into me from where they would have had to stop at red lights. (make sense?!)
2. I love singing in my car to whatevers on the radio. I'm paranoid that somehow, my cellphone in my bag has leant on something and dialled a number for some random person and they're listening to me sing.
I feel so silly admitting those! Add yours...

Whenever I straighten my hair I am paranoid for ages after that I've left the straightener on and its going to burn the house down, despite the fact its got an auto shutoff timer.
I often panic when I've left the house in a hurry that I've gone out in my pyjama pants or something equally embarrassing
There are heaps more! just need time to remember them

Pregnancy.
Oh wait, that isn't irrational.
But even when it is irrational (ie on injection) I still worry.

My biggest fear is spiders. (gets chills thinking about it)
But I also have a fear of hurting people's feelings. I try to make everybody happy even at my own expense.

I'm kinda the same. I would rather speak to the person, in person instead of over the phone! Wonder why that is...

Gosh funny, I far prefer to call someone - actually email is even better - than meet in person. It feels more "safe" to me
I almost feel sick, just thinking about (the possibility of) mice in the house. Absolutely hate it (we had them at one stage when I was a kid). One day my sis rang me at my bf's place (he's now my DH) to tell me that she found a dead one under a pile of stuff just outside our (hers and my) bedroom. He had been squashed flat. I screamed and dropped the phone!!
We had a cat trapped in our garage for 3 days, a couple of months back. Now everytime I see the garage door not properly closed, I always do a quick scan of the place to check there are no more eyes peering out. Ugh. Totally freaked me out when I walked in there that once and found a cat just sitting there, looking at me.

I have a fear of insects (especially flies) flying into my ears at night. I have to sleep with the sheets up over my ears to protect myself, and cannot sleep if I don't! If I'm hot, I have the sheet up over my ears but pushed away from my back (so I'm basically cuddling the sheet)
If I get dive-bombed by a flying insect at night, I freak out! Nat just laughs. He doesn't mind too much because I cuddle into him until I feel better. He's been known to put his hand over my ear until I settle down

Me too I spend so long preparing for the phone call and deciding what and how to say it all, that when I finally call, I get it all mixed up and am a blubbering mess. Would much rather do everything in person.
My main irrational fear is about car accidents. We travel a lot and have to text before I leave and after I get there just in case I've gone off the road and no body knows. DP rides a motorbike daily and that REALLY worries me too.

I'm always paranoid about falling down the stairs and breaking a leg/knocking myself out or else getting really sick (brain embellism or something strange)when I'm home alone with Ashleigh and she'll be stuck screaming in her cot for hours until DH gets home

Mine is:
Driving onto a bridge, then having to wait in a line of cars while the lights are red/the round-about is backed up. It freaks me out that the bridge might fall into the river.
Seriously, I have no idea where that comes from ... have been like it for a number of years now, and the Waikato is a looong way down, so I'd probably die when I hit the water ... god, that's morbid!

My fears are that if I'm walking under a bridge it's going to collapse on me.
My other is when me and James a out walking that when I'm crossing the road someone going to be speeding or not see us and hit the pram that one freaks me out the most.

I thought of a few more.
I'm terribly afraid of birds. I hate hate hate them!
I don't mind them too much if they're high up in trees but if they're near me I freak out.
I also can't stand rats. We've had a couple in this house and luckily DH has been around to deal with them, but I am petrified of a rat or bird visit happening when I am home alone with the kids. I turn into a hyperventilating mess around them.

I'm the same, we live by the Onehunga firestation and I shudder when I hear them coming and I'm in the car or even waiting to cross the road to go home.
My other fear is something happening to me on my way to picking Nyah up from preschool, and hubbie not knowing what bus I caught or which way I went to get her...

I have that intersection fear too, but these days not just emergency vehicles!
My irrational fear is that when I am walking round a shop people think I am stealing things and the store detectives are following me waiting to pounce! (And i don't have anything for them to find of course!)
And when i see a cop, in the car or in person walking around, I always think they are coming for me for wahtever reason, even though I know that I haven't done anythign wrong!
