Topic: What are you scared of? Posted: 23 September 2007 at 7:37pm |
I had the zoo on while i was changing Spencer and they had spiders on there, which I really hate and was just wondering what everyone else is scared of and why?
I'm scared of spiders because I had some bad experiences as a child, the worst was the day me and my sister were playing in the garden and I walked into a nest of spiders and was covered head to toe in baby spiders, I screamed so load mum thought I had broke my leg, she had to strip me naked and put me in the shower to get rid of them, not funny I wouldn't say I have a phobia as i can deal with small spiders and I can cope with bigger ones if they are far away, but I freak out if they get too close or if one gets on me.

Blugh I hate spiders too. My skin crawled when I was watching the zoo And I hate birds flying above me after being attacked by a magpie.

Everything! I am scared of birds (as in pathologically afraid, break out in a sweat etc.), heights, the dark, lifts, mice and plenty more, and I'm also claustrophobic. Oh and it takes lots of drugs to keep my anxiety from controlling my life!
But spiders and insects don't surprise me funnily enough, I think probably coz we lived in Oz when I was younger and we used to get huge Huntsmen spiders in our shower all the time so I'm just used to them.

PS. To answer the question "why" I am afraid of so many things, I have no idea. I have an anxiety disorder and it's all part of that.

That's exactly why I keep telling DH there is no way I want to move to OZ.

Trucks tipping over.
Also VERY scared of flying and am flying to Raro in 7 days ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! No arguments re: it being safer to fly than drive help....you are still thousands of feet in the air in a flipping heavy metal thing and falling out of the sky is never a good thing! Prefer to keep feet on the ground thank you very much!

I am scared of heights, HATE spiders...
and for some reason for the last couple of months keep having a dream where I go into water in the car and have to try and rescue the kids... who would you rescue and how when they are babies?!?!?! I used to have a nightmare as a kid where the harbour bridge collapsed and that has been creeping into the dream ..EEEEK
Doesnt help that I read the story about the family that lost 4 of their 7 chldren by plunging into a river in the UK...
Oh, that was a bit long!

I have a fear of bridges, I think it comes from my dad being silly at Huka falls and me getting freaked out big time. I still at 25 run over that bridge to get to the other side.

I hate driving over bridges, Im always scared someone is going to clip my car or a big gust of wind will push me into another car and send me over the edge. My dad was in a truck accident a couple of months ago when a bus didnt give him enough room on the bridge, luckily he was almost off it and able to reach the otherside but the truck rolled and everything, was horrible.
Flying is a major major fear of mine.... just part of the whole anxiety disorder thing I guess. Oh and I cant lock a toilet door if there is no gap above or below for me to climb out incase the lock doesnt work.

This sounds really dumb compared to all of your fears but I have a huge phobia of vomiting, as it I have panic attacks, sweat, can't catch my breath and shake. It's awful because I have a lot of trouble going to sleep because of the fear that one of the kids will be sick. It's a stuggle to keep it from ruling my life. The kids next door had a vomiting bug last week so I kept disinfecting everything. One time I heard Chloe be sick in her cot when she was 10mths old and I tried to rush into her but I could hardly move and my cheast went tight. I use rescue remedy now and it helps a bit.

I have learnt that any fear is not dumb after what my DH has been through no fear is dumb.

I'm petrified of rats. Our cat caught one a couple of weeks ago, I caught a glimpse of it when I came home to turn the alarm off after the builder set off and I sat in the car at the bottom of the driveway when I got home from work until DH came and moved it. They're ugly and their teeth are far to big for their bodies. Ew ew ew.
I'm also scared of socks. I hate socks, they suffocate my feet and they're grotty. It drives DH insane sometimes.
I'm also afraid of sitting in a seat where people can move around behind me, this stems from a childhood experience which has also caused me to be afraid of looking outside a window when it's dark.

i cant have a body part out of the bed at night, even when its really really hot i have to be fully covered and keep my feet and hands in the bed. dh likes to freak me out by letting his feet hang out over the side
and the usual, birds flying bugs jamming fingers oh and i freak out when there is a scene in a movie involving horses, as they always *get* hurt and they scream and their legs break and i find it all so hidious. think that one is related to the fingers icky fear. i am constantly telling xanthe "fingers" to watch her fingers around doors, cars, drawers, feet etc etc etc. its a dangerous world out there for fingers you know!
