I can't tell you what to try but my son is 10 months old and only started crawling a month ago. All babies do things in their own time so don't worry too much.

jack didn't crawl til he was just over 12mths old. he's not walking by himself quite yet either. as alan's mum said babies will do everything in their own time.
when he's on his tummy do you put toys in front of him to look at? maybe a playmat with different textured things on for him to feel/play with would be a good idea, have a look on trademe

tummy time isnt the only way they strengthen the right muscles. my first hated it too but got good neck muscles by lifting his head when i had him on my tummy. i wouldnt worry if he isnt crawling yet. there is no definite time frame for achieving these things.

Paris hated it too, so learnt to sit, and that's how she stayed till 11 months when she learnt to bum shuffle. she stood by herself at about 14 months, and then she went back and filled in the gaps, learning finally to roll over, and to crawl, then one day she just started walking. babies do things in their own ways.. that i learnt the hard way - i tried everything from mirrors in fron tof her to toys in front of her, putting them near so she could reach them, far so she would have to move to get them... nothing worked. I spent too much time back then focusing on that, and not enough focusingon the bright little girl ihad who liked to just sit and figure stuff out. I'm sure James will do whatever he wants, when he wants - i know it's hard waiting but just take advantage of what he can do and it will be even more exciting when he finally learns all those things because it will be worth it.

i also just saw your ticker and see that he's only 6 months old too - That's pretty early to be worried about craling too - some people are lucky enough to have littlies crawl at that age - but most don't till between 8 - 10 months. my second girl ayja LOVES tummy time and is rolling about etc, but no signs of crawling yet. hang in there - it'll happen

Maya was close to 8 mths before she crawled, and yet she walked at just over 10 mths. Each baby is different, and will do things in theit own time, but the average age to start crawling is between 8-10 mths so your bub has plenty of time to learn! My fat lzy baby didn't even roll over until after 7 mths!

jake crawled at 6 months, and i had spent so long thinking, i can't wait til he can crawl. then after that, i can't wait til he can walk....and as anyone who has met jake will testify - he now runs everywhere and is EXHAUSTING me! with B2 i will definitely be enjoying the more stationary stage!

BTW when well-meaning people ask you if he's crawling, say just about. It makes it easier not to smack them when they start-in about their child who walked out of the womb.

yeah they have a great way of doing that... sometimes it's not helpful to know the "norms" or averages...

oooh Ayja started sitting yesterday... i got her up from her nap and sat her in front of me with a couple of toys and for once, she didn't face dive or throw herself backwards - just sat nicely and used her hands to balance. Today has been great cos her new toys have taught her to balance with one hand and use the other to play.

ooooh i am so excited. looks funny though cos she's still such a tiny wee dot - i can't help but think "baby" .. but she's not, she's doing so much.. but still soo little.

he he, he'll do it, ayja rolled a couple of times then didn't for a while - now she is rolling everywhere, sitting and today has spent the day pushing herself round in circles, and backwards - but not forwards yet.

anyone have ideas on how to get her to sleep- she has learnt to roll over in bed and thinks it's fun to peer over the cot edge and look in mums mirror - no use turning her cos she turns round to face it either way. so annoying.
