after my landlords suck thread, thought i should add that i now understand a little what they go through. went to look at a property last week and I fell in love. Huge place, great grounds, perfect for our boys. Dh not so convinced. I even rang Contact to find out the heating bills over winter. Decided to wait until tenants moved out and then have another look.

Went today and OMFG. the landlord was going to do her inspection after we left and boy, is she in for a fun surprise. Nothing has been cleaned...I would say ever. mould everywhere - the shower is disgusting (we never saw that properly on the first look). Holes in the wall (were covered by a bed). in the linen closet was possibly a years worth of newspaper. a hole in the floorboard - covered with a hunk of (broken) chipboard. The dishwasher made me gag. beer bottle lids everywhere. Porn and condoms left on the floor (thank goodness - still in the wrapper), and just crap everywhere. So landlords on this site, I can now understand your pain - doesn't stop ours from sucking a little, but hey I can see a wee bit where they are coming from.

Also, these guys were men, professional men - NOT students.

I don't understand how people can treat someone else's house like that! They might be paying rent but that doesn't give them the right!!!!! Besides why do it? You'll just get a bad reference next time you go rent.

We've always treated properties we've rented with total respect...I guess that's why our current landlords let us move from thier other rental house to this one and reduced the rent so we could afford it easily.

Well I just went around to our rental as our tenant is moving out on Friday, and the grounds are overgrown and ours looks really crap compared to the other units, hope it is not too grubby inside, so guess we will be having to do a bit of a tidy up before we rent it out again, great just how I want to spend my Christmas/New Years.

Oh and our neighbours next door left their handbrake off and their van went through our back fence ..... sigh. And for some reason are a bit apprehensive to give us their landlords details!

i work for an insurance company and i have seen my fair share of disgusting rental properties.
Last week for instance, i visited a property where the towels had been on the bathroom floor for so long that they were green..... with mould dust. the cupboards had grass growing in it.

Another one i visited had animals all through it,, and RATS running through. they had chewed through wiring in the tv...

Mummy to two beauties... Formerly Kaiz.

Well I have spent the whole last three days cleaning, it has just taken me 4 hours to clean bathroom and toilet and it was so gross!! We moved in the weekend into a property which we really liked to and our friends moved out well great friends it is filthy no cleaning done at all, another friend came yesterday and spent 2 hours cleaning the kitchen for my the windows were so bad you could not see out them!!!

We too treat properties we rent with the upmost respect and I just do not know how people can do this, I got a call from my old landlord thanking us for leaving our previous property in such good condition, good luck liz with your search for a property that is clean!!!

If the house was mouldy, you don't want to live there. It will be gross in the winter, and all your stuff would go mouldy too. We had a house like that for a few years, and was gross when we moved out and saw all the mould there!

Eww Ben used to work cleaning up the outside of rentals. He told me some stories that were really sad like people moved out and left everything behind, even well loved teddy bears. He said one house the kids had tried to pack up their stuff but it got left behind
