I am looking for anyone's thoughts or experiences regarding Playcentre. I have been told they are brilliant and have been thinking about joining but would love more feedback.
Would love to hear about Blockhouse Bay and Titirangi as they are our closest
We are going to have a look at ours on Monday. I figures we have nothing to lose by trying it out as it is literally across the road from us. I can let you know what I thought.
I have been given some of their info and it is PC to the point of ridiculous...as in trynig too hard....but we'll see if it is like that IRL
Linzy, we dont have a playcentre here so cant help you, but try doing a search of the old topics cos I think there was quite a bit of talk about it a wee while ago.
I know someone who's involved and she really quite likes it. You need to be prepared to make the time & effort commitment as you need to go twice a week and it lasts 3-4 hours. Plus from what I understand you're also given a task to do outside those times ie rostering staff. It's run by the parents and you get to go on free parenting courses which is cool - I would love to do it but don't have the time really
We did what is called the SPACE programme ran at some playcentres. If they have one near you, I definatly recommend it. It a programme just for babies and there mums and they cover topics, and do activities relevant to the babies ages at the time. There is a thread about it here too if u do a search.
they are fantastic if I lived closer we would deffintly be involved with one here. When I was working as a nanny the family I worked for were very involved she now work's for them part time. Like somone else said you get out what you put in tho these are not like Kindy's or daycare where you drop kids and go parent's help with the clean up etc. It is so worth it, but you need to be willing to put a fair bit of time into it.
We start officially next week but have been for a few visits. You have to commit for whatever days you choose to come and help clean up at the end. Basically you have to let the children do what they want and not try and get them to play with something. Theres no time out or anything and the kids can play with whatever toy however they like. The only time the kids are stopped is if they are hurting someone or destroying something. Its not for everyone but we love it so far
