Heres my situation, I am 24, DH is 29 and we I have been off the pill since August.
We really only started properly trying last month as I only really found out about how it all works with ovlation and all that last month. Anyway, I play a lot of netball, love it I really do. I have played for the one team for about 10 years and so has my best friend, she knows we are TTC and has suggested to me (joking around) that we put off TTC for 3 months so that I can play half the netball season with her - which may sound silly but we do EVERYTHING together type thing.

I also need to lose a good 20kgs but would be really happy with 10kgs, so my question is if you were in my position, would you
A) Put off TTC until I had lost that 20kgs
B) Put off TTC until I have lost 10kgs
C) Put off TTC for 3 months while I play netball (and hope to lose more weight)
D) Just keep trying!

Im so confused, I know it would be good to get the extra weight off and 3 months really isnt a long time to hold off at all, but then I think of the last 3 months where I have had the BFN and they have felt like the LONGEST months ever!

I really am confused and dont know what to do - I know it sounds stupid but it really is doing my head in!

DH is absolutly fantastic about it all, he says hes ready now or he doesnt mind waiting and will support me which way I choose to go - damn him being so nice! lol.

Help! Your advice on what you think you would do or whats best etc?

Sorry ramble over - and now reading it it sounds so stupid but Im going to post it anyway since Ive typed it all out!

I would keep TTC.
I play (played) netball and loved it too, so I had thoughts of waiting to coincide with the season. In the end, I got pg after a cycle starting at the end of April and played the whole season anyway. The last game was when I was about 4 months and I felt fine.

Because you just don't know how long it will take TTC, I think you should just keep trying, but continue life as you would if you werent e.g play netball and work on your weight.

Good luck

I would keep TTC.

As for the weight thing, it is such a long and hard journey to lose weight so how long do you think you will take to get to yoru goal weight?
Is it a year, two? If so, how do you feel about not having a baby for that amount of time?

Personally, I would keep TTC, even if you lose some weight, you are still likely to gain some during your pregnancy so you would be back at your currect weight - or there abouts.
So if you do get pregnant, try to exercise lightly throughout and then start the real slim down post pregnancy, nothing like walking a crying baby to sleep!

Good luck with your decision

I'd just TTC.

You could still play netball while preggers (to a certain point). And you can still try and loose weight in the mean time.

I would also keep TTC. You would be able to keep playing netball for a while anyway.

And as for the weight thing, I was always *going* to lose 10kgs before I got pregnant, but I never got around to it. I now need to lose 20kgs (put on 35kgs during pregnancy due to pre-eclampsia and very bad swelling) but I have my baby and thats all I really wanted in the first place.

So yep, go for it and good luck!!

I also would keep TTC, I'm on the same mission to lose a bit of weight but if I had put off TTC I still wouldn't be trying now, which is 10 mths since we started, so yeah I'd definately keep TTC, ya never know how long it's gonna take unfortunately

Good luck!!!

Thanks guys Im already losing weight - BUT I was thinking if we put off TTC for 3 months I could take something to boost it along like reductil or something?

I also dont want to let my best friend down if I fall pregnant at the start of the season!

We have a rule at our club that you cant play past 12 weeks so Id be out then oh I dont know what to do!

Im SO unhappy with my weight, I keep thinking whats going to happen when Im pregnant - but then I want to be pregnant more than anything in the world!

If it were me I'd keep TTC and work on my weight while ttc.

Your friend will definitely understand if you're not there playing. You can always yell from the sidelines!!

And good on you for losing weight already. That's great.

I'm going to go well against the majority here.

I'd stop TTC, lose some weight AND play netball. Sure, sounds selfish, but as soon as you become pregnant and the baby is born, it's not half as much about you anymore, it's all about the baby! So it is your last chance to indulge yourself in what YOU want to do and be completely selfish about it.

You and hubby are still so young, and as much as I love my daughter, I would have loved a last chance to be completely and utterly selfish.

Luv ya!

I'm going along the same lines. Keep TTC and keep playing and keep losing the weight.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

BooBoo, I agree with the majority, keep ttc because you never know what will happen or how long things will take.

As to your weight, it's great that you have lost some already, sad that you've given up. I would not recommend for you to take any sort of drugs to help you loose weight faster as they are not a sustainable way of weight loss. Weight loss really is a mind game, one way to start is to not think about weight loss and focus on fitness. You want to build fitness, strength and muscle not simply loose weight. The fastest way for you to tone up and shed kilos is to do weight training, the more you work your muscles the more your body has to work to repair them, and thus it burns up calories to do this, this is when you really start to see a difference with your body. You will feel fitter, stronger and have more energy, your body will really start to look and feel better. Diet is essential, but only a diet that is sustainable. Fad diets don't work and when you finish them you always put the weight back on and then some. Start keeping a food diary for a week, note down everything you eat and drink, and I mean everything, at the end of the week go through the diary and review what you have eaten and then see where you can make some changes, substitute a handful of mixed nuts for the mars bar or buy only bit size ones and take only one with you (replace mars bars with any other indulgence), reduce the meat portion of your dinner and add extra veggies instead. Each week just change things a little, keep doing the diary as it will become a positive reinforcer to your changing diet. If you can start by reducing the portion sizes of the things you eat and bulking them up with salad and vegetable items then you are a long way to achieving overall good health and weight loss.

Now that netball season is approaching for you, perhaps you and your girlfriend, or you and DP could start going for a daily walk, half an hour at a good solid pass will do wonders. Sometimes it can also help to stick up motivational reminders, like pictures of why you are doing this, stick them to the front of the fridge or bathroom mirror. Nothing negative, nothing like a blond bimbo in a bikini, nothing that shames you or makes you feel bad, things that really remind you why your doing this, what you are going to get out of it, what excites and motivates you.

Good luck and remember its ok to be naughty and slack off, just as long as you get back into it again.

Just to throw in my 2 cents - I would just keep TTC, but maybe (as some others have suggested) include an extra form of exercise in your routine (maybe walking or swimming) as well as netball.

I had totally planned on playing netball until around 12 weeks, but after one game at about 5-6 weeks, I found my body was telling me no-way! I just felt really horrible... So keep in mind that you may not be able to keep playing as long as you think. I know that others have had no issues with playing longer, but you need to listen to your body.

Good luck!

I have to agree with Baalamb. Sound like it would be best to lose the weight  and play your netball (as both will help each other) then ttc when you are 100% ready.

I'd keep TTC. I have weight to lose too but, at the rate I'm going, we would probably still not be TTC had I waited. As for netball, you can always go back to it later.

To be brutally honest, You are going to put weight on when you are pregnant anyhow, so I would kept TTC, and not bother too much about the weight thing because it will be a 5 step forward 15 steps back thing untill baby is about 3 or 4 months old any way..

And along the brutally honest theme, "We do everything together???" If you want to TTC and she dosen't want you to so you can play netball, I'm sorry, but that is all rather 16 y/o? JMTCW.

Good luck and if you are lucky like alot of mums on here, the weight will drop off after you have baby!!

Thanks everyone - fattartsrock as I said she was joking when she said that.
When I say we do "everything together type thing" I was trying to put a picture across off how we are very good friends and that I really do enjoy playing netball with her type thing. She would NEVER mean it by saying dont play netball, she is the one that has already brought a few things for us for when we do have a baby!

How much is the average that people put on when they are pregnant?

There is no average Dal.

I put on 35 with Andrew (bear in mind I got very sick) but instantly lost 20 after he was born.

Josh I put on about 15 I never really got weighed.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
