I’m wondering if I’m alone in my feelings at the moment.

I have so been looking forward to being pregnant but now that it is here I feel almost ashamed to say that I am not enjoying it very much! I have found the morning sickness and tiredness harder to cope with than I thought.

So many people say to me “oh you must be glowing” and “over the moon” and yes we are excited but right now I can’t honestly say I’m enjoying it. Part of me is almost a little worried that I may not enjoy it at all!!

I also find it hard because sometimes I just want someone to give me a *gentle* hug and tell me it will be fine instead of telling me to “buck up” and get used to it all. Bottom line is I still feel awful at the moment! I felt bad taking yesterday off even though I felt awful because some people make me feel like I do just have to “deal with it” because being pregnant is what I wanted.

As I say, don’t get me wrong because we really want this baby.

I know part of what I’m feeling is probably hormones but I’m wondering if others have felt this way at first…part of me does feel like a whining madam!

Oh paws!! What you are feeling is totally normal!! Hormones are crazy and being pregnant is not always a walk in the park!! I went thru phases when I was pregnant, sometimes i loved it and pranced around merrily and the other times i wanted to crawl under my duvet and not come out til the baby was born!!

Don't ever feel like your whining!! Being preggy is not always easy and it is really tiring! Look after yourself!!

i found the first 12-15wks really hard too. i felt sick only from 10-12wks but it was the incredible tiredness i couldn't deal with! i've never been so tired in all my life! but.....
it did get better and once i could feel jack moving inside me (18wks) i really started to enjoy being pregnant....then it was all over too soon
i'm sure many of us have felt the same way, just try to remind yourself it's not for too long.

Don't worry Paws.. many people hate pregnancy. The good thing is that it is temporary (and the first trimester is often like that... yucky continuous nausea). So yeah, bring on the next 7 months huh?

Awww Paws

Nice gentle hugs for you honey.

I hated the first 14wks of my pregnancy too, hormones going overtime and the m/s is just awful. All I can say is you are feeling normal and it will get better specially when you see your tummy expanding and hearing your babies heartbeat and feeling it move inside you.

Well I must be one of those people who hated being pregnant the entire time. The first three months I was sick all the time, throwing up about 3 times a day and paranoid about miscarriage. The second three months I was still sick all the time, got symphisis pubis dysfunction and wwas paranoid about premature delivery. the last three months I was STILL sick all the time, didn't sleep, suffered in the summer heat, fainted from low blood pressure and worried about my baby dying in labour or at birth.

And the minute she was born I would have done it all again in a heartbeat.

Hang in there Paws - even if you are one of the unlucky ones who is sick the whole way thru, it doesn't last forever, and the reward is well worth the suffering!

Thanks everyone, I think I really needed to hear all that! So many non-preggie people (especially those who have never been) seem to expect me to be floating around on cloud 9 and I've felt bad that after the intial excitement I haven't been. It's nice to know others have felt this way!

I'm feeling a bit better tonight too...not so nauseous (that's almost the worst part - nauseous but not throwing up)...so either things are easing up a bit or my friend tip of salt and vinager chips really worked!

Anyway.....thanks again everyone!

I second what everyone else has said - and also warn you that closer to actually having baby, you may feel the same again, and also may start to really wonder what on earth you are doing, thinking you can't possibly take this on,.. just know it's all normal and you can always come here for some support.

I hated all of my pregnancys and for each one wondered why the hell I was doing it again, I never had the glossy hair and glowing skin, more like greasy hair no matter how much I washed it, and spotty skin even at 29. Glowing pregnancy I think not, but then when you hold bub it makes the mood swings and the feeling like a beached whale so worth it you forget how sh*tty you felt in the first place. Hence to willingness to do it again. You'll get there. As for other people expecting to you to happliy glow all the time, very easy to say when you're not feeling sick all the time and your body isn't going through the most drastic changes ever. You have a right to feel the way you feel and just because you aren't enjoying it doesn't mean you won't love this baby or don't want it.

I'm not enjoying pregnancy, and I started to feel guilty about it until a friend of mine pointed out that it's difficult to feel enrapatured by constant vomiting, extreme tiredness, feeling like greenpeace is going to be knocking on your door looking for the beached whale.... I know once my baby arrives it will all fade into a distant memory, but right now I just wish it would hurry up and be over!

Hi
Im not particularly enjoying it either. But i cant wait for my baby to be born! Im 20wks so its not so bad at the moment. But I've been warned that its going to get hard again toward the end. I know what you mean paws about everyone telling me how great i must feel and how excited i must be. Which i am, but after the 100th person as just said it its hard to work up the enthusasiam and then i feel a bit bad for not being as excited as i should be. But im sure it will be over before we know it.

did anyone see sex and the city when miranda was pregnant and they told her it was a boy? she wasn't particulary excited but pretended because everyone expected her to be.

James - high hormone levels do contribute to bad morning sickness, and healthy pregnancies tend to have high levels, but it's not an accurate guide of whether or not bubs is healthy because in many pregnancies which result in miscarriage the hormone levels climb normally until around 8-10 weeks, sometimes even longer.

I just realised that my last post is probably a bit scary, so if it helps, once bubs heart is seen on ultrasound the chance of miscarriage is less that 5%.

"The highest risk period is between 4 and 6 weeks. Once 8 or 9 weeks are reached and the baby's heart beat is seen on a scan there is only a 4% to 5% chance of miscarriage, depending on the speed of the heart-beat. It should be 120 to 160 times per minute. (BMP) The risk then drops to between 5% and 8% and continues to drop as the pregnancy proceeds." from http://www.miscarriagesupport.org.nz

Wohooo!! I don't know what speed the heart was beating but it was seen during my six week scan...so that's a good thing at least!
