Ok, so not PC but what do you use to cage the little monkeys in? Playpens look so small and my pillow barricades are no match for the crawling demolition boy.

We are going to have to get some gates and barriers for doors etc so what do you all use and recommend?

we got a wooden playpen for Ella from trade me- don't really use it that much, just when I am in the shower and if I cooking dinner and DH isn't around to watch her (otherwise she just tries up climb up my leg the whole time).

Ella doesn't actually mind going in it as she loves standing up holding onto the bars.

We had a play pen though Miss M quickly grew tired of it! Now it's just the door gates.

At our last flat my DH built a gate to keep Michaela in the lounge out of gib board (this was great because there were no gaps to 'post' things through and no way to dislodge it because it was actually built into the wall) he also wedged a child safety fence along the entrance to our kitchen so she couldn't get in there.

We are gonna get a playpen, when we find one big enough, I don't like the standard ones that baby factory and that do they just seem to tiny and mean.
We have gated the kitchen off, custom job as kitchen is actually open plan into the dining. So the gate fits across the gap by the breakfast bar type thing, and then we intend to gate the hallway off which will need to be another custom job as there is no doorway. That will give him free roam of the lounge, diner and entrance. Is such a bugger this open plan business.

We just blocked the kitchen off and keep the doors shut. We have a kiddy gate for the outside doors until Caprece is old enough to work the stairs. Just childproof an entire room so you can just let him roam.

I think Dream Baby do the metal door gates and they have extending bits for the standard gates. That's what we have at my Mum's house for her bi-fold doors.

We've got a nice big collection of standard wooden door gates strategically placed around the house so even if I can't see her (we're not open plan) I know she isn't anywhere dangerous.

We are using a soft gate (i.e. made out of material) on our ranch slider (from evenflo I think?), other than that the only other gate/barrier we have in our house is between the laundry & kitchen so that we can keep the cat food/water etc in there. Haven't bothered blocking off the kitchen (we are have an open plan living/dining/kitchen as well)...just put safety catches on all cupboards and have made sure that the bottom drawers just have plastic containers (which she loves opening and banging away on while I am in the kitchen).

I was really cheap and just put a plank of wood up outside, by the time it was too small he had figured out how to get down steps anyway.

No Kellz, you must just have the perfect toddler

*ducks*

On a serious note tho, Willie made a slide-in wooden gate for our front door to keep the gremlins in and it works great, even GandT's Toby who is going on 3 can't get over it so it should last us a while. The bugger is that I can't get over it atm either!

Lol Emma about the gate working for u too!

I almost always know where Isla is and what she is doing, cos shes either glued to the TV if In the Night Garden is on,...or attached to my ankle or hip

She cant get out the front door, and has free access to the backyard which is fully fenced, from the kitchen. I have just moved anything we dont want her to get- the dishwashing liquid etc is on the bench not in the cupboard.

Oh we have put ugly plastic trallesing over the back gate cos she could crawl through the gaps,..and DH has put a awful looking make-shift lock on the pantry,..after one too many cereal spilling eppisodes! It was the 8pm swim in cherios on the lounge floor that did that!
