    Posted: 10 April 2008 at 8:32pm
I am very new to cloth and have made 4 pocket nappies and have another 8 underway.

I have been using a flat cloth as an insert for Lauren and that has been working fine up until now. I can only get two hours max out of a MCN before it starts to leak. I think its just that she is wetting more often as she is drinking more as she gets older.

What should I use for inserts now, I have heard hemp is good....but how much eg; like how thick and where do I get it from??

I really have no idea as you can probably tell!

TIA

You probably want a combo of hemp and microfibre. You can get some on trademe but also there are HEAPS of places that sell inserts. Mayeb check out Staceys website...foxybots as I find her trifold to be outstanding!

O.k cool, I did think about Staceys website, will go and check it out again.

So how many inserts do I need per nappy, just one?

I use a sposie at night so don't need to worry about overnight inserts!

Thanks for your help nzpiper! Hey you got me inspired last night and I dug out my machine and have nearly completed the 8 half finished nappies I had laying around - so thanks for that!

I would get one for each nappy. Staceys hemp/mf trifolds are so good you could probably use them overnight.

Gosh sorry for all these questions, hopefully Stacey will see this post!

Should I get large inserts from Stacey? I have Medium sized pockets, so by buying a large means that it will fold up to fit in a medium pocket, or does a large mean it will be too big or maybe too long?

Gosh am I making sense here, I know what I am trying say, but its hard to explain what I mean!

Have you considered making your own inserts? Trifolds are great, and wouldn't require much sewing. If you can make your own nappies, I'm sure you can make the inserts! I think it works out alot cheaper that way too.

I agree with the other - hemp/microfibre combo trifolds are brilliant. I bought a couple from Stacey (Foxybots) and they're great. Not sure a large would fit into a medium pocket though as they're pretty big - this fill up my large pockets so I'd probably go for a small. Or if you're handy on the sewing machine make your own! All you need to do is stitch together a square of microfibre & hemp fleece!

Depending how big your pockets are a large might fit. They are designed to fit in my medium and large pockets..

Greenbeans is the easiest place to get hemp from. I haven't seen it in any retail shop around.
