Hi all...thanks for all the good wishes. Think my doctor thought I was mental being so paranoid! After I told him I had three positive HPT's and had missed my period he said there was absolutely no reason to have a blood test and that I was definately pregnant. So yay ha! Just had an awful experience tho. Rang up the fabulous midwive I had for my girl only to find out she had passed away 3 weeks ago from breast cancer. Just gutted. She was simply awesome during my hyperemesis and even when they 'took me away' from her and I went under a specialist she still continued to visit me. Only found out from another midwife after I had rung her number and spoken to her husband who only said she wasn't working as a midwife anymore, so feeling awful. Very sad

try using the bbc code and then remove the url part from the start of it. In your profile you can preview it to see if it is working

Congrats on finding a midwife. Most docs don't do blood tests they leave it up to the midwifes so she will probably have the maternal bloods then. Its not normal to have hcg tests either, i'm only having them this time because I had a miscarriage I didn't have any with Spencer.

Katte, hope you find another midwife that you like as much. I didn't want to go back to mw that I had with Spencer so had to find a new one. This lady seems really nice and was lovely when I had the miscarriage last time. She says it how it is which I like and she is English so we have that in common.

I never had standard blood tests with the first one either. Guess the hyperemesis was a dead giveaway! They only did a blood test to see what my levels were as I was so sick and then a scan cos they thought I might be having twins! I'm pretty relaxed about it now. Am going back on Fri to sort out an action plan for my asthma which was also a pain in the butt last time so will talk to him again then. He's been my doctor forever so I trust his judgement but might get stroppy and demand one!

Well saw doc and did another pee test, came up positive, I was starting to think that it would be negative and I had imagined my one at home. Decided not to test hcg levels, won't stop a m/c if its gonna happen so not much point. He took one maternal blood test, not sure what for, he said all the others were still up to date as I only had them done at the end of feb. He has offered to refer me for an early scan if I like to put my mind at ease, so not sure whether I will do that or not but have about 3 weeks to decide.

Thought perhaps we should all introduce ourselves properly and start a due date list.

So I will start, my real name is Marisa (probably guessed that already from the previous messages but hey) i'm 28 and I'm married to Richard who is 30 and we have Spencer who is 10 months. We are originally from the UK but have been in NZ for 4 years. I'm an electrician and I work part time from home (or try to).

That's a great idea Marisa. It's obvious that I am Katte. I'm a very young 37 which is probably because I am married to Graham who is 30! We have a daughter who is 4 1/2. I work fulltime as a technical sales rep for an animal health pharmaceutical company. We live on a 3 acre lifestyle property so share our lives with 18 sheep, 10 chickens, a rabbit, two dogs and a cat. Soon they will be joined by some pigs!

Good thinking about the blood tests. I have never had a m/c so I can't even begin to imagine what you have gone through but you're right. No amount of testing will stop it happening and, even though I don't mind having a blood test, I get pretty wound up about them before hand. Sending you 'sticky vibes'!

By the way, I do not remember being this tired, this early with my first pregnancy. Am at home in my office today and have struggled to achieve anything!

Katte - 1st Jan

Got my hCG levels back from the doctor today. They did the blood test last Wednesday, which was right on the 4 week mark. My hCG level at that time was 166, which they said was the normal range. So I have another blood test on Wednesday again to make sure that the hCG levels are increasing at the right rate.

That just put my mind at rest, because even though I peed on numerous HPTs to make sure I was pregnant, the blood test just confirms it. It also confirmed it for DH as well.

The fact that I am pregnant is really sinking in now....

Hi guys,

figure i can jump into this thread now.

I am Melanie 28, married to Jason 29 and we are due on Jan 5th. Which is DH grans birthday. Funnily enough, mine is the 7th and bro-inlaws is the 10th.

Had all my bloods done. I had my HCG, but maybe cos its my first??? As I have had an abnormal smear, i may be considered a high risk pregnancy so I am not looking for a midwife yet as I maybe referred to Obstetrician (sp?).

So exciting!

My GP has sent a request for a OB, but i may still be passed back to a midwife. I am not really sure, today has been a bit of a blur to be honest.

It wasnt my usual GP, she was booked today. Just wanted to get that blood test confirmation. I will go through everything with my own GP.

melanie - welcome to the Jan group! I am so pleased I found this site. It's so good being able to chat with different women who are due around the same time.

I am hoping to be able to stay with a midwife this time. Just depends if the hyperemesis and asthma behave themselves! It's really frustrating being under a specialist where we are cos there are no private ones anymore and in the hospital system you end up seeing aa whole bunch of different registrars and very rarely the actual specialist!

I really excited too but will be a lot more relaxed when I have got to 12 weeks as I will need to have some extra tests due to me being over 35. Kinda freaks me out just a little.

Have you worked out your ticker yet?

katte, thats my fear with a specialist... id rather see the same person, but will see how things pan out.

Good luck with the extra tests, fingers crossed for you.

i dont i know if its cos i am shattered or because i am having serious burping issues but i CAN NOT figure out how to get my ticker as my signature....

can anyone tell me how?????
