To pillow or not to pillow?

Ok, here we go, Paris moved into a big girl bed at 11 months, and at about 14 months we introduced a pillow (trapped underneath the bottom sheet so no suffocation could ensue)

Here's our dilema:

Ayja, has been in a cot, a convertible cot, and since about 15 months we have asked her if she would like a pillow. We have always gotten the reply of "no thankyou, no pillow" or something to that effect.

Finally about 5 days ago she decided she'd like to try one... and of course not having any suitable spare pillows, a grabbed a small square flat cushion (you know those inserts for home made ones you buy from spotlight) and put it in a pillowcase.

She has used that, and liked it, and seemingly actually slept better having something nice to snuggle into - as opposed to turning upside down in her bed, bunching her sheets up like a pillow and sleeping that way - which is how we had often found her previously.

So, of course, wanting to be humane, and get her a real pillow, no just a dolly-size pitiful excuse for a pillow, we went out yesterday and got her a normal one, made from the same stuff, the same thickness, just a little more pillow-shaped.

Within an hour when i went to check on her, it was on the floor. I went to put it back and was told she hated it, she didn't want a pillow. Ok, so i left her to go back to sleep.

I then snuck in there before i went to bed, and again asked her, to which i was told no. So i went and got the 'ol faithful little tiny pitiful pillow again, and snuck that under her head while she was asleep.

this morning, both are on the floor. I asked her and she said that nope- she didn't want a pillow, NOT EVEN the tiny little one. AT ALL.

She reckons that "when she's a big girl like Paris, she'll have a pillow" She's 10 days away from being 3, I feel horrible for the fact that up until this point (not that it's my choice) she hasn't had one. We have people visit and say "doesn't she have a pillow?" as if i am a mean mum who won't give her one!

Do i push the issue? or do i give her time. I mean it doesn't bother me too much, just the fact that she sleeps better with one and is obviously more rested.

Have i left it too late to really try and introduce one? and also, is there any damage to be done etc by her not having one?

theres more damage to necks from pillows as opposed to the other way round...

see that's the thing.. until now she's always beena kid who moves around and ends up sleeping with her head on her soft toys or her cluddly blankets all scrunched up. when she had the little pillow, we'd go to check her and she'd be lying on it, still in her blankets, nice and still and not restlessly sleeping like usual.. hence why we though "YAY!" . I dunno if she's just being her usual stubborn self calling the shots, or what.

I hate pillows,..I do ahve one but only ever sleep on the very edge of it,...,millions of people in the owrld dont use them, and dont have funny necks! Lol!

I wouldn't think not having a pillow would make much of a difference? I'd just let her do what she wants.

jack has had a pillow ever since he moved into a big bed at 2yrs. but in saying that, he very rarely uses it. he snuggles down in his bed until he's away from the pillow and lies on his teddy

Is the new pillow too bulky? Swap it with a flat one of yours!! Then just leave it at the end of the bed or somewhere accessible and I'm sure she'll go to it in time. Relax, Janine LOL - probably what you say to mums every day
