My MIL wanted a girl after having 2 boys - this is what she did and she got a girl!
This is what she sent to me in an email:

To have a girl you have to know when you ovulate - if you have a regular monthly system it is easy - There are only 2 days of the month that you
can conceive a little girl. It is good too if it is conceived in an acidic environment i.e. if you have a cup of tea before you go to bed, or douch yourself with water and white vinegar. (Boys are conceived in
an alkali envrionment so cheese or fruit cake) Little girl sperms live longer but are slower swimmers.

Just checked out on the website and its 2 - 3 days before ovulation

I really want a girl this time and i know the shettles method and how your meant to BD 2 days before OV to get a girl but i figured this cant always be true can it????
I know that the fathers history has something to do with it too which doesnt help us either as DH is young, fit, very fertile and works outside in the cold (cold weather hinders girl sperm and hot weather hinders boy sperm) |

I'm wondering if we are heading for a girl as we BD'd and worked out dates off that (didnt have a clue I ovulated until we got the BFP).  Our first scan put us back by a week +/- 4days so that would mean we BD'd 3-4 days befor OV....should be a girl huh?  Heartbeat was 163 so that fits and this pregnancy has been different....not too different but definately weirder.

It is quite interesting looking at the Fertility Friend charts - on chart gallery. If you search charts for pregnancy and girl you can see all the information eg when people ovulated, when they BDed etc. There didn't seem to be an obvious pattern and the charts didn't show that the shettles method is all that accurate.

I've heard this theory:   Boy sperm swims fast, but dies off first.  Girl sperm take their time and hang around longer.  So if you BD on the day you OV,  the Boy sperm get to the egg first.  If you BD a couple of days prior to OV, the boy sperm will die off, leaving the girl sperm hanging around for the egg to be released. |

We BDd five days before I ovulated with Alex, and he is quite definitely a boy I'd like a girl next time though, so we'll see what happens. There's quite a bit of info around on how to TTC a boy or a girl, but none of it seems to give much more than about a 65% chance.

Maya I have no idea. Gremlins we bd the day before O, and this one was bang on O. Oh and Willie wears tight undies (well not tight lol but he's a briefs man not a boxers one!) and his lil swimmers get pretty roasty when he's driving his truck. He did go thru a no-undies phase tho around the time we got preg with the gremlins |

Lol emz I'm sorry to say that there is no reliable evidence to back up any of these theories... and from what I've learned in my repro and development degree, it's pretty much 50/50 at the time that the sperm are "invading" the ovum (just depends which genetics the sperm that invades has... and the sperm that "reach" the egg or not seems to have no predisposition whatsoever to whether it contains a Y or X chromosome). So sorry, ladies, but there is no guarantee. In saying that, I want a boy next and I would probably try anything that I'd heard of when I'm TTC
