Topic: help me or ill cancel the wedding ... Posted: 18 September 2008 at 9:19pm |
No, not really , just wanted to have a moment of overdramaticness ....
ok , ideas please from you wise women
Im trying to work out what material i should have for my bridesmaids, and colours etc .
The wedding is going to be in a reserve surrounded by heaps of trees (think more large clearing than reserve) and in late Feb (so should have nice weather , tho this IS New Zealand ...)
My bridesmaids are all different shapes , one is tiny , 45 kg, the other is about a size 12, and one is bout size 14-16 , they all want long dresses, which is fine .
One of the bridesmaids has a request, she has arthritis and is very very ashamed of her wrists and hands , im one of the few people outside her family , to have ever seen her with out armbands covering her wrists of some sort , she is wanting to have something to cover them , eg a light shawl, or gloves, and plenty of people tell me "its my wedding , do what you want " but she is also my best friend, and its important for me that shes there, and is feeling comfortable with what shes wearing .
SO basically , what kind of material and style and colour (there is a pale complexion , white blonde, a tan darker blonde and a fair dark haired btw) do you think would go with a forest type wedding in summer, im thinking i dont want heavy material right ?
gah , help please

Just make sure she has flowers to hold, that will cover her hands/wrists.
What are YOUR fave colours, chick?
you so don't want to just "blend in" you need to think what theme colour/s you might like.
We had black, white and silver
gold/bronze is nice, also.
You will end up themeing your whole wedidng round their colours probably so you need to like it.
(invites, serviettes etc)

lol I got so fed up with my mum when I was planning my wedding, Kelly you don't have anywhere to hide! Lucky you obviously get along well huh
They don't all have to wear the same dress, you could have them in the same material but different patterns eg my bridesmaids were shown the fabric, and told it had to be full length and sleeveless, but they could choose their own patterns. You could have matching chiffon wraps or pashminas if you want to make sure they have the option for a bit of warmth if heaven forbid it turns out to be a colder day. In terms of colour, I guess you'd want something that stands out against green, I like fattartsrock's suggestion of a gold or bronze. A good idea is just to go to a nice fabric shop (and I don't mean spotlight!) and see what colours and materials take your fancy...

oh and i did see you can get the same dress but in a short and long version so if the bridesmaids want diff styles you can change it up a bit to suit their shapes.

you can get ones in the same co9lour but different styles - or the same style but different colours - i have seenthe effect where a lady had her bridesmaids in the same floaty summer dress but in different colours of indigo, blue and green and orange and yellow and pink - like a rainbow.
But yeah - you'll find something you like.
Mike always liked that electric blue colour which is what we have gone with and thrown in a hint of orange and a tiny tidbit of lime in some places to break it up a bit. - runs well now with our theme of monarchs....
just breathe breathe.
Or, get them all together, go into pagani and try on heaps of dresses - you'll get the idea of what styles and they have heaps of dresses in there at the mo that you could even just buy one for each in different sizes and it's all done then! (which personally is what i would/should have done done, since it is now 7weeks from the wedding, my FMIL has still not even picked up the material for the BM's dresses from our house to make them and i now find out she's over in aussie for 3 weeks on holiday!!!!)
Annnyway - I also think that there are a few other places with nice dresses at the mo too - (i took my 11 yr old neice out dress shopping the other day for my wedding)
That's usually a good place to start. Our style i even think we found at principals, but since i wanted it in a different colour, I got the catalogue pic of it to remember the parts i liked, then found a pattern the same, and have gone from there.

i got my BM dresses form Stax, took in the most self concious of my bridesmaids and she picked it out, the other two were the look great in anything type, i like the idea of Long gloves for all teh bridesmaids, would look really cool in the photo's a bit formal but dramatic.
What type of flowers are you having, my dresses were deep purple and flowers were deep purple calla lillies, then had deep purple ribbon tied around all the napkins and favour box's, it gave teh whole thing a bit of a flow, invites had urple in them etc.
Can you steel ideas from other things you have organised?

lol Lizzy I did he take my most self conscious bridesmaid out thing as well :)
How about a deep red nearly burgundy tone gown? Not to wow and out there but still won't be mistaken for a tree. I think the chiffon shawls are a great idea, a place like spotlight is bound to have chiffon that either complements or matches the colour you choose for their gowns. The girls can each have one and they will be greatful for it if a slight breeze picks up during the day at the photo session

At my older sisters wedding we wore the same dress but in different colours, at my younger sisters wedding we all wore purple but different styles.
The other way to go is to have the same basic dress pattern in different shades of one colour (to suit the different complexions) and have different sleeves. For eg. one could wear a strapless, another a spaghetti strap and the friend with arthritis could have floaty long sleeves.
A wrist corsage is a good idea (as long as the weight wouldn't aggravate the arthritis) or they could all wear stoles loosely draped over their arms.
Or you could have an opposites wedding and the bridesmaids wear tuxes and the groomsmen wear dresses

I love trademe, and google images is a treat as well. Just type in 'forest wedding' or 'red gowns' and there will be heaps of photos to help inspire you :)

I'm too lazy to search through but why not go to a dress hire place and get them to try a few on. I had no idea what I wanted so we just did this and found what looked awesome and what didn't.

Our girls all wore the same colour but different styles on top e.g the bottom of the dress was the same but they had a halter, strapless and criscross tops. Our girls wore a cloudy blue colour (bit hard to explain!) But it looked really nice and fresh!
