Iwas thinking the same thing when I saw this on the news he's crazy and I feel sorry for the people that'll get sucked in and sell their house to live but as you said each to their own.

oh my
Melanie , when was that Oprah episode, cos I recently read a book about a woman who escaped from a polygamist sect , and I think she was interviewed on Oprah , the sect , a name I can't remember , was on the news cos the leader was arrested and all the children put into authority care , but I think the children have released back to their parents now ...anyway , the book was shocking .

I hope no one actually sells their home and donates the money to live there!! What happens if they ever wanted to, or needed to leave?? Do they get their money back? I doubt it!!!

Yeah agreed. When I heard about that all I could think was "Utah V2" except unfortunately he won't be disappearing to the middle of nowhere.

I thought that too. There was one lady on the news who was going to sell their 6 houses and go live in his commune. I hope that lady's family manage to stop her somehow.

Hmm...
While I don't see anything wrong with a group of people who share the same beliefs wanting to live near each other (makes sense in many ways) this sounds pretty full on to me too. It sounds like there's being a lot of pressure put on people to move (From the article - "You'd shift for a payrise?" he asks his followers. "Would you shift for the purpose of God?")
Everyone's got a right to believe what they want, of course, and even if someone has very different views I wouldn't lable them a cult if they're choosing to live that way out of free will. It's when people's choices get taken away that things get cultish... have to admit that this sounds a little bit that way to me. If it was my Mum selling up her property, I'd be worried.

There is something that way it's been done and all leaves me feeling a little cold and more than a little uncomforatable.
