Well got my results back. I think the nurse taking blood saw me being really worried said she will rush the stuff through for me.

Called the office after 3 and the results were not available so that nurse called the lab and got my results. It went from 1200 to over 3500 in 47 hours (went in a bit early). So think it is viable for now. I want to cry but couldnt, how stupid is that.

This morning I almost puked with the mouthwash but I usually start gagging with new mouthwash (and this was new). I so so so hope this baby is a sticky one. Just with hubby can get a bit more excited now but I think he is so busy at work now but would be nice having some support for right now. Might just torture you guys to listen to all my nagging and complaining. But for right now I want to cry it all out but I cant.

Shirena, complain away!! But great news about your numbers, I don't know a whole heap about Hcg no's but from what I do know that sounds great!

I am hearing you on the sticky baby as well, have had so many lower abdomin pains lately I am not sure what to think, actually trying not to make too much of it at all, but keep thinking when I finally get a dating scan they are going to tell me bad news - I don't want to be so negative but I guess I also don't want to get too excited in case something happens, doesn't that sound aweful!!

Poor you pearls, Man I hate MS!!! Although today hasn't been as bad as yesterday thank goodness!

How is everyone else feeling?

Hi Everyone,

Hope you don't mind me bumping into your conversation. I've just had my first every positive pregnancy test this week, and a confirmation from blood tests and our doctor today. With any luck, our baby will arrive at the end of July next year. It's taken us 18 months to get this far, and although I'm excited, I'm nervous and don't have a clue about what happens!

It was my first time meeting this doctor today, since our previous doctor has just emigrated (gutted, they were lovely!). This doctor hardly looked me in the eye, told me 'yes' when I asked if the number meant I was pregnant and then scheduled me for a follow up blood test next week. Other than that, he said there' s nothing to do until the beginning of January. It seemed very laid-back (where's the parade! the congratulations! Doesn't he see how long this took!)

Is this normal? Is this what you've experience? What happens next?!!

Thanks for your help!

A very nervous and excited, Liz x

First big Congrats to you guys Liz. Second I am also on the first ride for a pregnancy over here. (had one in South Africa).

But if I am you, I will call around and starts to interview midwives. My gynae in SA only use to see you round and about 8 weeks and that was generally for a history thing and normal visit. (plus a scan to confirm dates). Then every 4 weeks from there, where she took BP, felt uterus and you had another scan done. Blood was done at some of them and I think it was from 17 weeks that we did the urine test as well. But like I said, have no idea how it works here.

For right now the dr is looking after me until the scan comes back and then I think she might refer me on.

Hi Shirena,

Congratulations to you too! It's all a bit overwhelming (in my head) and underwhelming (at the doctors) at this point. Thanks so much for the response and the advice on the mid-wives, i'll see what I can find out.

How far along are you now, and are you scheduled for your scan? I know that in Canada, once you have a positive pregnancy test you see your mid-wife from the first week, 8 weeks and then every 4 weeks - I guess since it's my first I'm expecting a lot!

Hope you're feeling well!

Congrats Liz! As Shirena said it probably is best if you try calling around Mid-wives asap as some can book up really fast. I have heard some don't see people until after 12-14 weeks but if you start interviewing them and sort out who you would like as yours then they will be able to book you in for a dating scan if you are unsure of your dates.

Did your Doctor give you any information to take home and read in regards to maternity care? For my 1st pregnancy my Doctor gave me some info on the MW's in my area, and I asked around some friends who'd had babies to see who they recommended.

Where abouts are you, perhaps one of us might know of some names we could recommend.

Any questions just ask, OhBaby is great for asking all your questions and getting some great help.

Congrats again, and welcome to OB
Hayley

Scan is on Friday, but that is due to we not knowing our exact dates and previous mc's. I personally think it might be a bit too early to see anything so they will give me another one a week or two later again.

Thanks Shirena and Hayley for the advice!

Hayley, my doctor didn't give me anything but a slip of paper to get the blood test done again next week. He gave me no advice or anything - ok, so maybe I'm expecting a lot! I live on the North Shore of Auckland - if anybody has any recommendations I would be so grateful!!

hey guys. so hating morning sickness right now.   I had it real bad with my first two pregnancies which were twins, but this is just one baby and it's worse. I can't even eat anything. Anyway, hope everyone's feeling okay.

Lizabee - I'm on the North Shore too! Some doctors give out a pack with brochures in them with guidelines on things like food safety etc, you're more than welcome to have mine if you like? And are you from Canada? Sorry to be so nosy LOL

Shirena - your blood results sound great! I told myself I'd stop doing it after the first two, but I am tempted to go in for a third one as I am feeling a bit anxious at the moment, and want to make sure this baby is OK. I have still been having morning sickness on and off, but managed to keep my dinner down last night!

Hi to everyone else, hope you are taking care of yourselves, as much as you can anyway!

Hi Pearls

Yipppee - a north shore buddy! I think I'm 5 weeks today, so going by your ticker our due-dates must be fairly close. All crossed fingers at this point, it still doesn't feel real and I'm anxious for everything to go well.

Did you have your little girl in New Zealand? What was your experience like? Sounds like your doctor is much more switched on than mine! You should keep your pack for your own information, but knowing that there is one out there makes me determined to get mine!

Yes, I'm from Canada, we've been here for 3 years now.

Hope you're feeling well!

Hi again Liz Where on the North Shore are you, if you don't mind me asking?

I had my little girl in NZ, I'm an 'old timer' here though you wouldn't know it when I open my mouth! I've been living here since 1994 and have completed both high school and a uni degree here.

I don't mind giving you mine if you really want, it will save you the trouble of harassing your GP - I generally know the ins and outs now so it's no trouble. If you flick me a PM I can drop it off / post it / meet over coffee?

In terms of what my experience was like, it was fine! We were living in Mt Wellington (so more central Auckland) for the first two trimesters, then shifted house, so it meant a shift in midwife too! But I was exceptionally lucky to find a good one who could take me on, and I had a drug free water birth at North Shore Hospital.

This time around though I am planning a home water birth, and have finally found a midwife - she's on holiday but our first appointment is next month I think.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I'll try my very best to answer for you.

In other general news... went to the gym and saw my personal trainer this morning, it was great! She has written me up a programme that should be suitable for doing throughout the whole pregnancy, which includes a variety of things like cardio, light weights, swimming etc. She is also a naturopath, so has ordered me some really good quality prenatal vitamins, as well as a natural herbal tea to help with my morning sickness.

I caved in earlier though and stopped at Medlab on my way to the gym, and had a third HCG test - should get the results this afternoon. Have been feeling a tiny bit anxious but otherwise OK I guess.

Right, will stop rambling and get on with dinner prep I think!

I am feeling pretty good today. Although Jack seems to have come down with the tummy bug I had last week

I see my mw for the first time on Monday and quite excited but also nervous. She was one of the backup mw's when I had Jack so have met her once before and she was lovely. She is very popular and I rang her at 4w1d to try and make sure that I got her. I will be 12wks a few days after xmas I think so I am going to request my 12wk scan early. I don't want the nucal fold test results at all as it wouldn't matter what the result is and as I am 28 (29.5 when baby will be born) there shouldn't be much risk. I just want to see the heartbeat and hopefully make myself feel a little less anxious. Don't think I would make it through our xmas holiday without a scan.

Does anyone have their xmas holiday planned/booked? Not sure exactly when we are going and for how long as it depends on DH's work, but hope to go up to the family bach on Boxing Day/27th for 2wks. Really looking forward to it!
Lindsey

Pearls I think I found someone else worse than me. Cant believe you guys all have midwives already.

Have to bake banana bread and date bread still today and finish the washing as well as the lasagne I am making at the moment and McKayla has asked for the Jan Smuts tarts so have to do that as well and get packing for the camp this weekend. Dont ask me when I am going to get in bed. Just hope my husband can come home at a decent hour tonight. And madam is fast asleep on the couch as for the last few nights she kept herself awake until her Dad came home. Poor bubs.
