I've found one you get antibiotics from the doctor bubs perks up within 24 hours, and pamol will tide you all over until then!

Depends on how bad it is and what has happened in the ear as to how long it would last.
Both my boys needed to get antibiotics after at least a day with an infection and took another day to get back to normalish. If their ear drum had burst then it took a very days to get over.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Antibiotics will clear up infection but may not necessarily get rid of any middle ear fluid. If your child is getting recurrent ear infections, ask your GP for a referral to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.

Many studies have shown chiropractic care to be not only as helpful but actually more helpful than antibiotic use for ear infections.
i take Lily when heer ears are a bit pink (twice, both times looked at by Doctor who said they were heading towards infections) and both times an adjustment has stopped it in its tracks.
Just something to consider, especially if there are recurrent ear infections and you are open to trying something a bit alternative (especially with the long waits on public waiting lists for things like grommtis etc).

Have been to the docs 5 times now since the 24th of December - 2 have diagnosed as colic and then the last 2 as an ear infection - we are on the 2nd lot of antibotics (with runs this time) and this is day 3 of the 2nd lot bubs still hates taking the bottle - she is screaming. The doctor asked me yesterday want I wanted them to do!!! Finally got a hospital appointment booked for the end of the month - how long do ear infections last!!

We use a homeopathic spray called Earmed by Naturopharm. Oli loves taking it, and we give it to him at the first sign he starts pulling at his ears. He has only had one infection which needed antibitoics!

Ugh, big hugs and commiserations! I have had months and months of the gremlins being in constant pain from their ears (theirs is worst case scenario pretty much tho) and the only things that I found helped with them were regular pamol, infant nurofen when it was really bad, elevating their heads with phone books under the cot to help ease the pressure and at one stage we even resorted to Phenargan to help them sleep (it also helps dry up the fluid in the eustachean tubes).
Other than than, my advice is definitely see an ENT specialist, coz it's really tough for GP's to effectively diagnose and treat ear infections in small children as they don't have the equipment to get a good look at the ear and GP's tend to have a variety of different ideas on best treatment practise so it can be hard to know which advice to take.
Also, antibiotic drops are more effective than oral antibiotics if there is discharge from the ears, and fluid in the middle ear can cause pressure and discomfort even when there is no infection present. Fluid (glue ear) can also cause hearing problems.
