I am coming up 32 weeks pregnant and have encountered what I hope is another random pregnancy condition... My right ear has been blocked for a few days and everything sounds distorted. I have had no pain, discharge, headaches or anything like that its more annoying than anything else. Can any other pregnant ladies out there relate to this?

Your GP might be able to do something. I remember when my ear went funny (not preg at the time though) the dr flushed it out with warm water. Kinda gross to see what comes out though... but should be all safe for bubs as its only water

Chewing gum can help a bit.

What about ear candles? They work really well. You can buy them from the pharmacy or a health food store. That would rule out a wax problem.

Although I have heard of other women getting ear problems during pregnancy and /or breastfeeding.

I have always had problems with wax build up, right from when I was little. I would suggest making an appt with the nurse at your doctors and having your ears flushed. As Littlestar said it is just warm water so perfectly safe. You will feel so much better once it is done

Yup - I have this too. It's super annoying!

It comes and goes though - so I suspect it might be more of a pressure thing than a wax build up. (I'm vigilant about cleaning my ears!)

I find that gum helps, as does making sure I drink plenty of water...

I could have written the exact same post! My left ear has been blocked for two weeks. When it first started, I went to a clinic to get my ear syringed. But then she informed me that there was no wax whatsoever in there!
So then, a trip to the GP and on antibiotics in case of ear infection - did absolutely nothing! She also did a very simple hearing test which really freaked me out, cause I could only hear 2/5 noises in the bad ear.
So now, I have an appt with a specialist next week.
Apparently, it can be a pregnancy thing which is a bit like glue ear and can be fixed with grommets.
I have been worrying myself sick that I'm going deaf!

Pleased to hear that you other ladies have been experiencing the same problem and I am not going mad . I am just going to let it lie I think Curly, only 8 weeks to go so hopefully it magically corrects itself
