I'm sort of jumping in here as well although mine is a questionable high risk pregnancy. My nuchal measurement at the 12 week scan came back as an elevated risk for Downs syndrome, but could also be symptomatic of a heart condition if it's not that. Just went to my first specialist appointment yesterday and everything looked perfect at the scan. Now just have to wait 4.5 more weeks to do the anomaly scan to see if there is anything else going on.

Gen - you are in my April due date thread, you just jumped in today. I'm the crazy lady updating the list (I have issues, I won't get into them ). Anyway, I can't imagine having to be on bedrest for that long. I'm a stay at home mum and could easily manage a visit if you ever want someone to come over for a cuppa and a chat. Where are you in Chch?

Gen - yah, PM me your address. We can arrange a meet up sometime. Is it alright if I bring my 2 year old?

As next week begins school holidays which means all his programmes stop it is often good to have something else to go do.

Hi ladies, I'm "just" pregnant. 4w 6d, and I am a high risk pregnancy because of a uterine anomaly and high blood pressure. My daughter was born at 30 weeks.

Just wondering if any ladies in the Hamilton area can recommend a midwife who is experiences (or even vaguely knowledgeable) in high risk pregnancies. I'll have shared care with a hospital obstetrician.

Me 38
DH 39
DD1 - 3 years, born prem at 30 weeks after 5 years TTC
DD2 - born prem at 33 weeks

I think i'll pop in this high risk group, I have Congenital Heart Disease, Defects include - patent ductus arteriosis, Transpotision of the greater arteries, vertricular septal defect, Right aortic branch, and ventricular stenosis. I have had 5 open heart surgeries with on going mantainance issues. I have had one previous m/c about 5 years ago (I am currently 26) and I am now just over 6 weeks pregnant. Not really sure what to expect, I just hope this lil tike makes through to be a healthy bub (as there is a chance of heart complication to bub)and a healthy mum too!!!!. Anyone else on here had heart issues?

I remember my mom tell me a story during her time of pregnancy with me, her blood pressure was shooting up really high making the pregnancy and delivery a lot hard in anyone's book.

We were both lucky to have made it through though the eclampsia. There really are those who are sensitive with such operations that is why you have to take care of yourself while on your way to it.

Hi There Everyone!

Im new, well not really, I was on here at end of 2009/beginning of 2010 when I first fell pregnant, and then found out I had end stage renal failure and had to give up my little one in order for me to stay alive. :( sad times. Since then I have had a kidney transplant from my lovely hubby and it has been 14 months now since the transplant and I have switched to safe for pregnancy meds and the doctors have given me the go-ahead for TTC!! I am very happy now and am on day 4 of my cycle. So waiting to ovulate really.

I think I might fit in here as my pregnancy will be treated as a high risk.I had tremendous support last time I was on here and thought I would come back! This month we get to officially start trying. Some might remember me.. I would have been due in Sept 2010.. Let me know if you do :)

Now, How do I get one of those little banner thingies to chart my cycle at the bottom of my replies and posts? Totally forgot ! hehe

Last week I was diagnosed with GD. This is my 3rd baby, but my other boys are 15 and 13. Strangely I have not heard from anyone at any hospital so far and it has been 4 days. MW expected me to hear the same day she rang with the results.

I am really worried because I want to deliver naturally at Waitakere as I am expecting labour to only be 2-3 hours judging by family history and previous births. I am hoping to control my sugar levels with diet as much as possible. My fasting levels were fine and the glucose level was only up by 0.5

The worst thing is DH is kind of burying his head in the sand. His way of coping. He has no idea of what it could mean and even made the comment 'why bother to do anything about it?'.

Any advise about this from other women who have had pregnancies with diabetes would be great.

Hi cinderella, I had GD with ds and is plays up when preg. When i got the result the 1st time i had an appointment withing 4 days. What will help as they will prob sent u to a dietician is keep a diary of what u are eating and drinking. They will get u to test your levels prob 6 times a day. Hurts to start with but u get used to it. i found i could eat the same thing everyday 4 each meal and levels would be diff. Depending on your area u will have regular check ups. In my case when i was in labour they had me hooked up to iv lines and checked levels every hour. i had a big baby 10lb 5oz and he was a couple of weeks early. After u have baby they will check bubs levels too. If u have any other questions ask away.

Thanks Tigger,roo
It has been 4 days and I still have not heard from anyone. So far bubs is quite small but before I found out I thought she had gone through a big growth spurt. I went from measuring 1 week ahead to measuring 3 weeks. It will be interesting to see my measurements on Tuesday and my next MW appointment.
Hubby just doesn't get it at all so I really have no one to talk to. My mum is all doom and gloom. Talking about me developing stage 2 diabetes in future and problems with bubs etc. So I am avoiding talking to her about it.
My best friend would be the same if I told her. She would turn it around and start comparing this to her kids and problems with them.
I am booked at Waitakere Hospital and read on here that North Shore don't do deliveries with GD women. So I suspect Waitakere won't either. I really don't want to go to Auckland. I was hoping for a natural birth and have actually been reading about unassisted at home births. This is my last baby and I really don't want alot of interventions. Strange because with my boys I was happy to go along with anything I was told by the docs. I am worried now that I might not get a choice.

Cinderella - hopefully your mw will be able to get the ball rolling and give u more info on where u will be able to deliver. i know from what my ob said today that he doesnt want me to go past 38weeks. Fingers crossed u can have a natural birth. Hugs. Breast feeding helps after birth to reduce your risk. Its hard when u have no positive support. Here if u need me :)

Well have seen diabetic MW tiger, roo. All good so far. Definitely need to go to National womens but as baby is not looking to be hugh, my MW is happy to support me in not being induced at 38 weeks and going into labour naturally so long as everything is really good.

Scan for growth on Tuesday and seeing Ob and Physio on Wed. Still pretty stressed about the whole thing but just taking it one day at a time.

Just popping by
Mollycat I have a DD with downs syndrome , nothing was picked up on the scan , even after she was born they went back to look at it and couldnt see anything , not even the 4 wholes in her heart. A friend of mine had it picked up in her scan and her DS was born completly healthy and no down syndrome.
What im trying to say is try not to worry , as these test the are offering us are never going to be 100%, sometime the worrying can be worse for you than anything.

Well seems like the GD is the least of my worries. Turns out she is alot smaller than they first though. Doppler scan on Wed pm next week to check on placenta and then maybe admitted same day depending on what they find.
