I have a major sweet tooth and always have done. Since Jared was born I've been a major piggy basically with junk but this week I decided that was enough and I'm on the weightloss track again so I've started exercising and I'm fixing up my eating but I crave sweet food constantly and it's driving me nuts.. does anyone know how I can get rid of that?

Apparently bananas are supposed to stop sweet cravings.
Also, my dad was a real chocoholic and lollie muncher but now he has little jars of brazil nuts and almonds and dried fruit to munch on. I think the protein in them takes away the sweet craving.

If that all fails, then yoghurt coated raisins are really sweet and might make you feel slightly better

Half my problem is that I'm kinda fussy when it comes to food.

I'm not really a fruit person at all, apples and that is it and they have to be crisp or I won't eat it lol

I might try the nut thing but maybe a small amount of peanuts instead since I like them

It could be a magnesium deficiency?

Just what I was thinking. Esp if it is chocolate that you are wanting.

Dont deprive yourself of what you crave. apparently you should let yourself have a little of what you crave just don't over do it. If you want some chocolate have some just don't eat the hole block. Have wee portions of what you want to eat all set up so you only have that amount. If you want a chocy bar buy those wee fun pack size bags but just have one

I'm terrible when it comes to portion control when it comes to chocolate or bikkies or anything like that. No self control lmao

I shouldn't have a magnesium deficiency since I've been taking a magnesium supplement to help me sleep for weeks now. I've always been like this over chocolate even as a kid.

Giving up sugar is very hard. If you go cold turkey, youll feel crap for a few days- but then you wont crave it anymore.... give it 1 week I rekon. If you really wanna give up sugar that is.

Good Luck

Oh- if you do want a sweet treat- that aint choccy etc.... try dates.... ??

I was going to say fruit as well, but seeings as you are a fussy tart , maybe not. What about dried fruit, or muslei bars???

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

mmm I have a real sweet tooth especially when I'm tired (I'm eating apple crumble right now lol). I heard that when the body craves sweet stuff, you need calcium - e.g. a glass of milk. Might be worth a try? Sometimes I also find that I crave treat food when I'm thirsty.

I have heard that the body can confuse sweet & protein cravings - ie your body will exhibit cravings for sweets when what it needs is more protein. Why not try adding some more cheese, eggs (not sure if you eat those) or tofu etc and see if it helps.
I have also heard that iodine can help but can't remember why or how

Chromium supplements were my god send to stop replacement of cigs with lollies... (god did that make sense?)

Anyways, lack of chromium makes you crave stuff... chromium stops cravings... a search for chromium sugar cravings will show you a world of info on it

I do eat eggs. I have one egg on toast for breakfast every morning.

The problem with milk and cheese is that I'm trying to loose weight and those two things just add weight.

I might just try the nuts thing (as they are protein) and if that fails muslei bars

They only add weight if you aren't eating balanced meals. If you have a carb/protein meal every 3 hours you'll lose weight and stop craving sweet things (unless its a deficiency). My mum lost almost 3kg in the first week doing that without even exercising. I lost a jeans size in under 2 weeks and DP lost a whopping 10kg in 9 days and we were all full and eating yummy food!!
Cottage cheese is a protein BTW and if you blend it til its smooth and put it on fruit toast its so good!

No matter how I eat if I cut out cheese and milk I loose weight. That's the way its always worked for me so I'd rather avoid those things.

I want to get healthy as I loose weight. After Daniel I lost almost 30kg by exercise and adjusting my diet to something that worked for me so I'll do it again.

Because I'm fussy and a vego I do what I like and what works lol. Finding protein in my diet is difficult so I end up having protein shakes which also helps as I exercise to build muscle. I don't do lentils or tofu or beans or any of the other general protein sources that most vegos use so I'm limited.

I have a mean sweet tooth, I never used to but since I got preg with the gremlins I've been shocking. I just can't get on top of it, so maybe I'll try some of these suggestions. In the summer I substituted chocolate etc. for yummy WW icecream which are low sugar/fat, but when it's cold it is so easy to reach for comfort foods!
