Topic: Heart burn relief Posted: 12 December 2009 at 9:37pm |
I am only 9 weeks and have been having the wickedest heart burn! I have never had it before and am desperate for relief, but I am reluctant to take gavascone. Anyone found a successful natural remady???

Dairy helps some - milk or low fat yoghurt, But other than that I am taking quickeaze when its not too bad, or gaviscon when it is.

My midwife said that almonds are quite good for heart burn. And yes, dairy products are too.
Although you are reluctant, gaviscon is fine to take if you really need it...
Good luck!

My midwife also said almonds are good.
I have a slat bed a i placed 2 bits of timber under each leg at the head. So i was sleeping slightly raised.
I only did it at 39weeks lol but it made a difference the last week. Wish id done it from the start though.

Eating ice is helping me at the moment,..but my heartburn has only happened since I have got huge later in pregnancy, and its not all the time. Always after I eat choc which sucks!
I now sleep with 2 pillows, and take chewable gavison in the night if the relfux is so bad I cant sleep.

I wish it worked for me!!
I've tried everything possible. Apprantly if you suffer from really bad heartburn your baby is more likely to have lots of hair as it's the same hormone that relaxes the muscles in your stomach and top of the throat that produce hair growth

I had chronic heartburn and ended up on ranitidine from about 18 weeks. Mylanta worked better for me than Gaviscon, and I slept with a litre of milk beside the bed (it neutralises the acid so doesn't hurt as much). I also slept sitting up and stayed away from any acidic food (or, later on, any food that had flavour ).

I had ranitidine, it was working until I started needing two a day then I had real issues with my tummy. My MW perscribed titrilac and its made a huge difference, some days I dont need to take anything which is nice.
Hmmm interesting theory about the heartburn and the hair, I got heartburn bad with my daughter and she had lots of hair at birth and had her hair in pigtails at her first brithday and I didnt get much heartburn with my son and he was bald till he was 6 months old....

I'm gunna agree with those who have recommended titralac. It has worked wondersfor me. I was getting really bad heartburn but I just keep the tablets with me at all times and have one when I feel the heartburn coming on and it relieves it instantly. And yes.......... I get it bad after eating chocolate too

Hmm, I had horrible heart burn and mine are still baldies
For me the best thing was a glass of milk before bed, sleeping upright and avoiding any greasy foods, or strong flavours. Chocolate was a shocker too although being pregnant I could hardly go near the stuff.

I had mylanta or gavison chewables in my handbag and took 20ml of the liquid before bed in the first trimester. The second trimester it went away .. yeah!
The third trimester it came back (as reflux ) and I added 2 litres of milk (funny thing is I hate milk and only every drink green lid but I couldnt stand skim milk when pg and was drink full fat) per day to my diet. I had a litre carton on my desk during the day and would just sip from it.

Titrilac is great!!! Although I did start feeling a little sick after awhile from the chalky texture so in that case I use gaviscon. I suffer really bad reflux even before I was preggers. I used to be on Losec but stopped when TTC but my MW and ENT specialist have said if it gets really bad again that nothing else is helping I can go on low dose losec which apparently is fine
Next time I see my MW I think I will ask for that prescription as man its really uncomfortable some nights so I really know where you guys are coming from

I had shocking heartburn and reflux around 30 weeks and I found milk great as well as chewable gaviscone.
I crave ice and eating that really helps as well.
