Anyone out there expecting or had a baby relatively close to #1 when you thought you had at least  2years up your sleeve??

We had our son Dec 08 and are expecting #2 in May 2010. Not as close as some i know but still a little aprehensive.

DS was a nightmare to settle  and still not a great sleeper at night, birth was long and ended in C-section so am aprehensive about that too, as Midwife wasnt very experienced in Hamilton and now we are in Christchurch. Although this time we will be birthing in CHCH womens so all the experts will be on hand from the get go.

Loved loved loved 1st pregnancy but havent been able to enjoy this pregnancy as much with active boy underfoot and am worried ill just be a walking zombie for the next 12 months.... again haha...

Absolutely love my time with my lil man and not sure how to stretch myself between two as hubby works long hours on the farm and has never been a hands on kinda dad.

Probably all normal concerns but would love to hear from other peoples experiences!

First of all, congrats on living in one of the most beautiful towns in Canterbury! I hope you like snow.

My son was born may 08 and we're due for #2 in May 2010 - come join us in the due in may 2010 thread btw~!
I've got no problems with the age gap we're going to have, Thomas will be a week off from turning 2, so it will be all good :D You'll love it!

It'll be great in the long run, trust me (well that's what I keep telling myself!)

I had a bad first labour (m/w has since been de-registered) and hated pregnancy so was really nervous. My new m/w was fantastic, I enjoyed the 2nd pregnancy after the terrible m/s went away and had a fantastic labour (well 47 hours, but hardly any pain relief at the end).

I struggled during pg as I was having issues with DH so I was basically doing the bare minimum with my son for a few months. I felt terrible but needs must and all. I never found running around after a toddler too bad, but we had a lot of crap to cope with aside from the pregnancy so that was the least of all complications really.

We have a 19month gap between our kids and I love it. It was hard work initially but everything's sorted itself out now. Jack and Ava love each other so much and give each other cuddles all the time. DH is away a lot and I found the night routine the hardest for a while, but hey it just meant the kids didn't get bathed as much and sometimes Jack had sammies for tea a couple of nights in a row - nothing too dramatic.

But do try and have some support around you - my mum has been an angel and was running to our house at 2am some mornings when DH had a breakdown and I couldn't handle anything. It is all worth it, it just takes a lot more organisation and patience for the first wee while.

I have a 17 month gap and am at the other end. To be honest I dont remember a lot of it thanks to lack of sleep but baby number two was fine it was baby number one that was hard work

Mine are now 4 (tomorrow eek) and 2 and a half and they get on most of the time. Its great because they are into the same sorts of things and do look out for each other. They do fight a bit but can work it out between themselves usually.

So anyway good luck it will all pass in a blur

I have 14 months between my two, my son was born June 08, I went nearly 2 weeks over, had a 48 hour labour that ended in emergency c section, lost a lot of blood and needed a transfusion, had a paralyized bowel for 2 days after the c section aswell The works!
I loved the pregnancy but the labour was traumatic.

My daughter was born August 09, I had a straight forward elective C Section with her at 9 days over due. I didnt really enjoy the pregnancy though..

For me the first 4 months were really hard work as Isabella has reflux and just cried ALL the time, now she is on meds and is all good.
But basiclly, even though its been hard and still is, you just power on! and it gets better, now my kids are a joy, Caden loves his sister and things get easier each day
You will be fine

I'll have a gap about 19 and a half months if it comes on due date. We were aiming for a gap of 22+ months, but i'm super fertile, (my mother mentioned it after I got UTD) Anyway, 6 weks to go and I'm now startign to panic. #1 still can't eat with a spoon. Or drink form a sippy cup. Will be intersting the first few weeks but I'm sure we'll get there. The other thing is trying to get #1 to sleep in a single, as we have a moses basket for the first few months but then we'll need his cot.  That could be the tricky bit.

I'm 10wk preg with #2, if all goes to plan, they will be 17mths apart.

I'm so tired at the moment! not sure how I'll cope, but I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one!!
I really wish there was more out there for mums in this situation! I just dont know how I'll cope! My hubby is good, but does work long hours. Our son is generally a great little man, but starting to throw the odd tantrum - he's 13months!

I look forward to hearing how everyone copes - its good to have this network!

I'm 9 wks with number 2 baby. They will be 14 months apart. Jack is such a good baby I'm scared the second one won't be. I had a touch of PND with Jack - mostly due to BF issues and lack of after birth support from MW. I think I'll be more prepared this time and have a bit more confidence.
