Topic: Babyshowers Posted: 18 July 2006 at 10:24am |
Well, friends are kindly organising a babyshower for me... eeek how exciting!!! Now here's where I fess that I've never even been to a babyshower, (and actually used to find the whole idea pretty ick). But suddenly I care about them... funny that! So who here had one? How many weeks were you when you had it? (is 8 months pregnant too late - yesterday I felt like a whale and wondered how I'd ever be sociable by then). How'd it go? Did you end up doubled-up on things? (I figure most people give clothes or toys, and doubling-up on them wouldn't be a problem).

I had one thrown for me by some friends and I was 34 weeks pregnant. It was great!! Yes I had some double. but it was not a problem because most of it was cloths and you do use them. There was loads of food and games to play and it was just a generally fun day.
I had loads of double ups after bub was born I still kept 4 gift packs aside as there was way too much cloths of the same size.
I am sure you will enjoy it!

Hi Andie,
My sister is organising a baby shower for me and I will be around 30-31 weeks at that stage (she is not able to do it later as she is going overseas for 4 weeks just after baby shower and when she gets back I will be due 2 weeks later so have decided to hold one earlier).
I have been to a couple of baby showers before and with the last one we had for a friend (it was a surprise for her) we all collected money and went out and brought clothes/socks/hats etc from Pumpkin Patch and Just Kids and put exchange vouchers with them in case my friend already had a lot of the stuff we brought. She was pretty chuffed with what we had brought for her. We also brought a gift for mum to be as sometimes people forget about that.
Yay exciting that you have baby shower coming up!!!

I'm having one at 36 weeks....a little late but we were juggling orgainising a house to hold it at etc etc...one my friends is organising all that for me.
I love baby showers...I went to my friends one the other month and it was really neat, she didn't get any double ups or anything and she had a great time even though she was a little dubious about the whole baby shower idea at first!

I didn't have games at mine... just food and pressies. That was enough excitement for me!

my friend organised a baby shower for me, i think i was about 35-36wks. it was great fun! we played a few games but mostly sat around and ate food which was great! i didn't get any double ups either, you can always do with a 'back up' of most things anyway.

I really dont want one! My sister in law has been bugging me about this for ages and I dont know why but I am just not in the mood for something like that ... I know I am a big blimp-sized grump right now, just hormones I guess, but to be honest I couldnt imagine anything worse at this moment....

Oh Mrs Frantic...
I am sure you would enjoy it, if you had it...and come on, to sit and eat and be ""oooohhhh"" and "aaahhh" over cant be that bad.
I was not allowed to do any thing on my shower and I even got pressies for me, some cloths voucher and bath salts and nice body lotion type of things....NICE!!!

I had one with Kiya... the only person I knew by more than sight was the friend who threw it for me! I met half the ladies there on the night, and by the time Kiya was born a month later I knew most of them only a little better. Oh, I moved to Hamilton 6 weeks before Kiya was born, so a couple of weeks before the baby shower.
I never had one with Josiah... just never got around to it! but I want one this time, and will be organising it soon.

I had mine exactly one month before Ella was born. We had food (which I mostly made), games and presents. I only got one double up but everything I got came in useful. No one offered to throw it for me, so I organised it myself

I had one at 35 weeks I think. My friend organised it for me and arranged for ladies to come and do manicures and pedicures which was great as I couldn't reach my toes to do my toe nails by then! I got given clothes and toys for Zac and no double ups.

My girlfriend organised one for me. I must have been about six months. She had games - eating babyfood, which almost made me gag, food, and pin the nappy on the bub. She's canadian so she was REALLY into it...a little too much if you ask me, but we had fun. Only thing was it was a surprise and she had ony invited a few of my friends, rather than a lot of my other girlfriends I would've liked. I love Kim's idea aboutthe pedicure and manicure though. Less of a babyshower and more of a mummy pamperiong session sounds good. Stuff being preggers, might just organise one of those now....so who wants to come to my house and watch me get a manicure- and pay for it??? Sounds like fun!

Where are you deb? I deffinately reckon you could have one for the second. The first and only baby shower i have ever been to, i was only 5 months or so and it was for a lady having her 2nd. She got given heaps of stuff! LOts of toys and things too.
Liz - Wouldn't it be lovely if someone did organise a mummy to be pampering session/ I'm kind of secretly hoping that someone might give me some bath salts or something. I think it woul dbe great to get given something for me aswell, after all, we have to carry this child for 9 months (give or take) and then push the jolly thing out! LOL.

I had one 8 weeks before having Paris - we got heaps of neat stuff and family bought the big things like a playgym and my classmates bought us a huge nappy bag - which we can't use much day to day but if we are going out for the day or travelling it's is wonderful, I found it quite tiring having it at that late stage.
With Ayja i had one at 20 weeks, and found that was great because then i could just top up what was given (helps that we already had everything from Paris)
There is a good site that has heaps of neat ideas on it including games - here's the link
