I think there has been a post in the past about this- I know that I had heard that they shouldn't be in them for prolonged periods and we chose to never have Charlotte in hers for longer than 10 minutes (something about jarring their backs??).
I found this which is kind of what I had heard- http://www.birthwise.org.nz/content.asp?MenuID=74

i have heard that there feet should be flat on the ground before they start bouncing or it can teach them to walk on their toes or something
I put Rhiannon in her jolly jumper for the first time yesterday...she loved it but only left her in it for about 5 mins

I love the jolly jumper's. the thing wiht anything like that is all in moderation like the other's say they mut have feet flat on the ground and i would only let them be in for about 10 min's a day that way 1). they don't get too bored with it and 2). its safest not to let them stay in anything like that too long best place for baby is on the floor.(on a sorft mat of course)

I had a chat with this very subject with my Plunket Nurse. See, Jolly Jumpers are meant to be designed so that they protect the soft spine and hip bones in young babies, but moderation is the key, especially if you start them off young! 5 to 10 min blasts at a time, and if you are worried at all, go get a hip check from your Dr or the Practice Nurse. After all it is free!

Maya loved hers, loved being on her feet, and we started her in it at 3 mths. A big thing in being ready too is head control - they have to have enough strength in their neck to support their head.
Oh, and be careful putting bubs in and out - I dropped Maya out of hers and had to take her to Starship... she was fine, but I felt like the worst mother in the universe!

Mine says on it "3-18 months, max weight 30kg" so Mikey should be fine!
I stopped putting each of my kids into it at around 10 months, but that was because they were walking and got annoyed at being stuck in one place!
