Ok this is a touchy one so please I just want some idea's on what you guy's all think about the immunisation's(SP?) there is so much for and againgst it and I would love to know what mum's have to say. Alan has had all his thus far bar the Menzb, but in light of recent event's (with my friend's child) I am serously debating weather or not to give any to Michael and to stop giving them to Alan.
Like I said this is a touchy one so please I want your ideas , but lets not make it a big debate.(I know we are all pretty good here that is why I know this is safe to post this)
Thanks ladies..

i have immunised my two oldest up-to-date except for their menzb ones which me and hubby chose to not get.
i will be giving kayla hers again except for the menzb ones.

an old workmate of my hubby's lent us a book ages ago all about pro's and con's (more so cons) of immunistation and it was quite an interesting read.

it does come down to choice... dont feel bad whatever you choose deb. you gotta do whats best for you and your family and if best is not getting them, sweet as, and if if is getting the jabs.... sweet as

When i was pregnant first time round my midwife toldme to checkout these two sites, one is pro immunisation (www.immune.org.nz) and the other is more about providing the info that is not so accessible (www.ias.org.nz). I found they helped me make my decisions.

Quinn has had all except MenB which I will not be getting. I did a lot of reading before I decided not too, I kind of felt the whole MenB schedule was a bit rushed (JMO!!) but I do know that my mother (midwife/nurse) thinks this is unforgivable that I won't get it.

It is all about personal choice, do as much reading as possible.

I have some friends with strong opinions on this subject, personally I would never tell another Mum what to do with their kids and totally agree it is an individual choice.  My eldest DS is fully immunised, so far my baby has had his 6 week shots and is now overdue for his 3 month ones.  I will continue (reluctantly) to get them done, not something I like doing though, I'm sure most mums would agree!

Just wondering, to those of you who DIDNT get the menzb ones, did u get a hard time about it from your dr/health care provider?  I have heard stories of people being phone called and even them turning up on the doorstep!!

my mother is totally against immunisations and she gave me a whole heap of info about it that is not widely accessable. in the end i did decide to immunise but it was good to be informed all the same. the best piece of info she gave me was a book which you can actually get free if you visit this site. http://www.vaccinationnews.com/just_a_little_prick.htm
it's got a lot of research in it and is pretty heavy going but well worth reading if you're trying to make up your mind.

Olivia has all of her immunisations, I chose to do so because if she caught the disease or illness in question then no one can say "Well you didn't immunise, your fault". And even though people shouldn't say things like that ever, and I would never say things like that ever, unfortunately it happens. She had a normal reaction to her jabs and seems none the wiser - for now. It's a tough decision so good on you girls for speaking about your decision openly.

I am pro-immunisation and we have had no problems at all with them. I feel the very small risk of a bad reaction is far outweighed by the benefits of immunisation. If we didnt immunise the majority of the population, we would still have nasty diseases like polio around. Another thing to consider is most daycares request seeing your immunisation card. And if your child decides to be a medical professional when the are older, they will need to have all the vaccinations then!

I hope you dont mind me asking Deb, but what happened with your friends baby?

I am all for the jabs. To get your kids into daycare and school you have to have them jabbed and show the documents to show it has been done. If you haven't had the jabs then have to sign alsorts of papers to say why you haven't and that if anyhting happens you take the risk of your child being at the daycare etc. The jabs are free and all you need is time and the pamol for afterwards. I know a lady who suffered from the effects of polio and it is not nice. She is always stared at for walking funny and asked stupid questions. If there is one part of the jab you don't want then you can ask to have it it not in there and get a special jab made up for you.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i immunised against everything. I was a little iffy about the menzb. Lissy had them but i put off Jayde until she was 15months. My main reason was because the menz B hasnt been around that long. And was unsure about any possible side effects that may crop up a few years down the track. but DH and i discussed it at length and decided that we would both feel to guilty if the kids contracted something that we immunise against.

But I am so for informed choice and each to their own. In the end we all do what we personally think is best for our kids.

I am with Aimee...I have Zaara immunised fully and she is about to go and get het 10 month 3rd MenB done this Friday. I dont wanna take a chance.

When we first invented the ususal jabs eg polio, tetenus (sp??) etc they all said that of no its no good, and they have reactions and oh some babies die with the same...but we still get them done to this date...I am sure MenB will be the same in the future. And unfortunately we will have a whole new disease (lets hope not) that we will have to immunise against!!!

Interesting topic to pop up today ! I have just come from getting Erin's six week jabs, we had all of them including the MenzB, and I will continue to have her fully immunised. I am in the same 'camp' as Roksana & co., would rather have them done than not !

I have had Ella fully immunised, including MenzB simply because I like knowing that she is as protected as she can be from those illnesses.
I intend to get Benjamin done as well.
I was very scared of her reacting to the shots after hearing the horror stories of parents whose babies had severe responses, but thankfully she was fine.
Each to their own though, as parents we have to make the choices that feel right to us, not what is right in another person's eyes.

We thought about the MenzB for a long time.. I got them later than Ella was meant to have them.. but still wasn't sure. Even today I'm still not sure I did the right thing. I didn't like that it was a new jab and that we don't know the effects 10 years later. It has been tested overseas but the components were a little different. In the end it came down to how I would feel if she were to get meningitis as a result of not being immunised. That and the pictures of the little girl who lost her limbs to the disease

Yep I was the same about the MenzB, but decided to go with it for the same reasons. Han has her last one (fourth) tomorrow...

We'll be having all the jabs and to be honest I hadn't really considered not betting MenzB done. I fall in the same camp as the others, I personally would rather know I'd done all I could. I feel that the benefits do outweigh the risks. Although having the jabs does not 100% guarentee that our little one won't get sick at least it does reduce the risk.

All that said I would be interested to read up more on MenzB...to be honest the whole debate over that one went right over my head - ok I wasn't really paying attention!

I am also trying to decide where I stand on this issue -I can definately see it from both sides and havent made up my mind yet. When I first got asked about it by my midwife I said "ofcourse" but then she asked me what I had read about it... I said nothing just seen the adverts. Later it dawned on me that the campaigns were designed to convince me that it was the right thing to do (which is may be - I dont know) but I realised I hadnt really looked into it myself. Now it seems that the more I read, the more I really think that both sides have valid points, and in the end I know that whatever I decide there will be a little bit of doubt there but hey - I have to make a decision....
tough topic and I think everyone should make the decision based on whats right for them...

I have just come back from having Ella immunised and i agree with the comments on here about id rather battle a few reactions than have that chance that my baby could get sick and end up in hospital or even die. I would never forgive myself if something happened to her and i could have prevented it.

But as pro immunisation as i am i will not judge another mum if they choose not to have the jabs done. Every mother does what they think is right for their child and noone has a right to tell them what is right or wrong when it isnt their child (if that makes sense lol)
