Pain relief in labour

Hmmm, "experienced" I am not, really after one labour!  But I didn't experience that out of control 'can't do this anymore' thing during transition, and wouldn't have a clue when I was in transition (hubby would probably know - maybe it was when I started what he calls the "son of satan growling"?!? oh how embarrassing!).  I got to the "can't do this anymore" stage at the end of the second stage of labour-  towards the end of pushing, while Ella was still turning.  Heck, I had an hour and a half of trying! 

I had an epi both times and it was near the end, well what was suppose to be the end (3hrs pushing) that i needed it, i did the transition stage etc but the out of control feeling carried on for me and with Addison the epi had worn off during pushing and thats when i started to feel out of control with her. the whole not knowing how long it was going to last and being so uncomfortable between contractions was horrible, plus i was thinking oh man i cant do this for 3 hours like i did with Kobe. luckily it was only 15 minutes but it felt like forever. not sure if thats any help

I Remember with Mikey that after the transition I felt very in control like I totally knew what I was doing. I felt more out of control after he was born. With Alan I can't even remember transition

Gosh when I went into transition with Briona (I didn't with Hannah), I started shaking and everything! I wonder if that was because I had artificial rupture, usually that speeds things up.

Sounds like next time will probably be a lot easier, especially if Krystiana doesn't go posterior like Briona did. I had 3 hours of second stage, my m/w reckons that will likely be a lot quicker this time around it didn't really seem that long at the time anyway.

With Maya they let the epi wear off to time the contractions as the CTG couldn't pick them up accurately and I remember being in so much pain and I vomited and I think I actually DID feel out of control,but I never got the "I can't do this" thoughts until I was pushing (at which point I actually said I can't do this and my m/w said it's a bit late for that love")

With the twins I wasn't even aware that I was in transition, probably because I wasn't expecting it to be so quick. I was aware that the contractions were close together and quite painful and the m/w said I might be in transition but I didn't think it was that bad. I never felt out of control, I actually felt quite empowered and was glad that the epi didn't work so I got to experience the whole thing coz I would have been way too chicken to opt not to have the epi by choice.
