Topic: dreaded chicken pox strike again. Posted: 20 November 2006 at 12:46pm |
yep, Ayja got sent home today from daycare because viola, one nice chicken pox appeardo n her shoulder. It certainly wasn't there on saturday, and we didn't bath them last night cos they were al clean, lol, so i never took her singlets etc off so didn't see it. of course she played messy play to day and needed a full change, and they rung me.
How lucky i was already taking the afternoon off work cos Paris has had her asthma flare up and she was home already too.
Geez and here i was thinking that i was gonna get my 2 days off this week to myself. lol. this better be it til xmas.

At least they have them now and not at xmas. Andrew seems to have escaped from them this time. No spots have appeared at all and it has ben over the 14 days since the first case was found at his daycare.
How does it work for you being at work? As I have found out if the kids have them then we (parents) are carriers, as we have had them before. And in your line of work it must be hard.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Lucky you Janine! I'm holding my breath on this one coz they've had a case at Maya's preschool last week. Funny thing is when I was pregnant I wished she'd get them so we could get it over with but for all the times she was in contact with it she still couldn't catch them. So Murphy's law says she'll get it now and give it to the babies and happy, happy days...

See now that is interesting Becks - i watched that conversation with interest about that a few weeks ago. Because we wear different clothes, and take the precautions of continuous washing of our hands, unless it is specifically US, that has comething contagious - ie running nose, conjunctivitis, d&V, or cold sore etc.. then we are ok to go to work. I double checked when Paris got the chicken pox - no one has ever said anything about being carriers and all that, EVER, so i found it really interesting that there were doctors advising people to stay away from other people and all that - however i have no idea about preggy women and all the guff that goes with that side of things really - so maybe it was just a little extra precaution on the doctor's side of things.
As far as i know, i have always thought that carriers were those that can pass on the disease, without having had an active form - which i suppose might be true of parents of the kids as if we have had them before then we wouldn't get an active form, but mostly it is all spread by close contact and by droplet infection IE contact with secretions from the infected person - (you know how most kids get runny noses, sneezy, coughing in the few days leading up to getting these sorta things.. and they sneeze or cough everywhere.. contact with the droplets can cause infection) so i guess as i said before - when i go to work, i don't wear my normal clothes, even shoes are different, hair is tied up, and hands are washed carefully - so chances of having any dropletty thingies on me to pass on is very remote.

Aw, poor Ayja is having a really tough go of it. yesterday i stopped counting at 100 poxys, today she has probably twice as many, all in her ears, her nose, her eyes, inside her mouth, on her tongue and through her hair.. even on the palms of her hands. She is one big red blister.

ick i went to change her nappy earlier and now see a huge amount of new wee dots comingup all around her nappy area, and up her tummy. I know it sounds ick but i am actually thinking of taking a pic of her wheni get her undressed for a bath this evening.. so that she can see when she's older just how badly she got them.
lol.. and i thought Paris was bad with 50 pox..
Ayja's still eating pretty ok though, she's just a bit titchy and a bit cuddlier than usuall.. but Ayja's just her happy self other than that.. she's a crazy child.

How did they start off? Poor Ayja and poor you they sound horrible..
as you know, Ella had a temperature last night and I'm wondering if it is related to chicken pox? they are going around everywhere.. do the spots just suddenly appear without warning?

hhm Paris and ayja both had a bit of a runny nose.. like a tiny bit of it, every once and a while - like any other kid might, then a bit of a hot temp and a bit ratty the day before, the spots can start off looking like a small red dot, like an itchy bite, then it gets a bit redder, with a small blistery dot on it.. the blister grows until it is really big, and makes a crater in the skin under the blister.. then it crusts over and scabs and hopefully goes away. A few of PAris's have scarred, she has about 3 scars on her face, one on the end of her nose, one next to her eyebrow and one round the side.
I'm a bit more worried about ayja's ones scarring cos she has them coming up on top of one another or right next to each other, so once they scab it's going to be very tight and itchy for her.

Yep they just start appearing from nowhere. We were really really lucky with Andrew. He had a high temp and the runny nose showing all the classic signs and his daycare had them and he never got them.

yep they can get it, i was waiting and waiting for Ayja to and she didn't until exactly 14 days after paris.. cos she obviously hadn't been exposed to them until paris - so went through the whole 14 day incubation period. and yeah - it's scary how fast they pop up.. From changing Ayja's nappy early this arvo, to when i bathed her this evening i was like WHOA!!! couldn't beleive how fast they are popping up, and still coming - she is starting to get clingy and grumpy this evening - i could hardly cook dinner cos she wanted to cling to me the whole time.
Ayja's are far worse than Paris's so maybe the immune system has something to do with it, ie older or younger. but who knows. depends on the kid.
here's hoping your girls cope ok, go to the doc and make sure, and you can get the pinetarsol and calamine while you're there too.

yeah i was thinking about taking jade to the doc. argh! so it might take a while for emma to get it too? i hope it doesnt take too long, if she is going to get them would be good to get them all over with. then they can be all healthy for the fun times of summer and christmas etc... seen they are already going to be missing out on heaps of stuff already

i know - mike took the week or so off work with Paris, now i have to take time off for Ayja - would have been nice in some sadistic way to have them both get them at the same time. Paris missed out on a birthday party and a barbeque with her little friend.
ok here we go heres some pics of my wee girl - day 2.5 of chicken pox. - she has just woken screaming and is cuddled with me on the chair. these taken before bath this arvo... still more coming up.
warning - may offend some viewers
