Has anyone had this? How often? What did you do about it? Thanks

ETA: Now I have time to add a few more details...

I have BPV, it's now my third time in 4 years and it's awful! Out of the blue I just feel overwhelmed with sickening dizziness (to the point that I do, in fact, vomit) and it gets worse when I move my head or stay in the same position for a long time... go figure. Apparently people who get it often find it recurs and there's really nought that can be done - except that I went to the Doctor today for "anything!" and have been prescribed some meds to help ease the dizziness while the BPV runs it's course (about a week).

In the meantime I have my DH at home playing "nurse" (which he is so totally not impressed with) because just tilting my head to see Krystiana's latching brings on severe dizziness, let alone nappy changes and all the general stuff the other girls need. Add to that a big sense of tiredness - also the meds can cause drowziness - and I'm definitely calling it a sick day today.

Is there anyone else out there that has had this? I seem to be getting it about every 12-24 months, is that a lot? What doesn't help me is my Doc confirming my (DH's) guess that when I'm exhausted, I'm more susceptible to it. (Well gee, I don't purposely go out and exhaust myself!)

can't help here, but.. does it seem to coincide with when you hve just had baby - ie exhaustion etc? I used to get some spells like that alot after having paris but were coupled with crippling cramps and panic attacks (ick)

Here's hoping it eases for you soon -how long does it usually last for?

A week... the first time I had it was in my first trimester with Hannah, the second time was around when I conceived Briona, this is the first time I've had it right after having a baby.

I think that's not the road to go on the basis that this is inner-ear related, not brain-related (fortunately!). I was wondering about that today before I saw the Doc though. It's not so much dangerous as really scary.

See if one of the outpatient physios at the hospital can help - theres a mobilisation we can do that can help reposition things in your ear. Hope something works and you are feeling better soon.

Aimee I've heard a bit about that - do you know if it is a permanent fix or a time-by-time job?

Jess I went to my Doc cause I couldn't even look down to BF without feeling like I was going to upchuck again. I kinda went with a "do anything!!!" attitude, I was so desperate. Anyway all he was able to do was prescribe some "motion sickness" meds of some sort. It helped a lot.

When I have BPV it's like someone puts me in a paper bag and shakes it all up. I get dizzy to the point where I throw up really suddenly, it all comes out of the blue and gradually subsides over a week. Apparently it does usually last a week. Just put that there to help you confirm if that's what you're getting. My doc said being exhausted or having a cold can help trigger BPV.

Oops sorry Teresa, didnt finish answering your question I think with BPPV it can either help temporarily or long term, just depends. They would send you home with exercises to continue with as well, like focusing on a point on the wall and moving your head but not your eyes. Could be worth a try if you find it happens a lot as it is very incapacitating (much like a fractured foot! )

Aimee I'm guessing my Doc said nothing about it because he thinks of it as a temporary answer... anyway it has passed now He did say (the first time - and the reason I went to the Doc that time was because I thought it was something to do with my (1st) pregnancy) that I could trigger it off to make it worse for a second so that it would then settle for a time. Well I just hope it never comes back
