 Topic: what happens at a catholic baptism

Hi, I know I am getting well ahead of myself but I like to thoroughly prepare myself. DF is catholic and it is important to him that our child be baptised after it is born. I have no religious background whatsoever but feel if it is important to him I dont mind.
But.....what happens? What do I have to do as mother? etc.....HELP!!!

oh Im not sure dont they jsut do christenings with the priest and the water?? I dont think the mother really ahs to do anything?
I have been to an adult baptism before but never a babies christening.
why not ask his mum? she should understand if your not a part of the same religion.
Or go to the church and ask the priest Im sure he would be more than willing to answer ny questions you have.

Valid options Monique and I may have to do that but I thought I would sound out the experience of all these wise women....I may even get the catholic and the noncatholic opinions....the "how to survive a baptism" story (no offence meant to anyone here

Emma (Maya) is Catholic, and I'm fairly sure she's had all her girls christened. If she doesn't notice this thread herself, maybe try PMing her.

I went to a babies catholic baptisim last year. (my cousin)
Other than providing all the nibbles after mum didn't have to do anything. (oh bring a towel for after the blessing with the holy water)
It is the named god parents who get up with the baby and have her blessed.
I was only a non catholic by stander so I am sure someone will be more specific.

Just PMed you NZpiper. Forgot to mention that after Maya's we had a big lunch for all the family, after the gremlins' we just did afternoon tea - champagne and cake.

ooooh, champagne and cake....I like that!!!!! We have plenty of time. Bubs isnt due till August but we will be going up to Auckland for my fiance's dad's 80th in September so thought we'd do it then. hmmmmm champagne and cake.....champagne and cake........yum!!!

Champagne and cake......I like it. We really need to get Alex christened as he is 14 months already. Its funny, with the first child you do everything early on and you're very organised. With the second one, you delay it....well I do anyway. We want our children to go to a catholic primary school so it helps if they are christened.

If you've had one child christened the priest will sign teh forms to have the second child enrolled at Catholic school even before you christen them - by christening one you show intent to do the same with subsequent children
