Topic: Well just had an accident. Posted: 23 March 2007 at 12:38pm |
Was at the veggie shop and needed to reverse to be able to get space to go forward to get out of the parking. McKayla was crying. (not that that was an excuse at all.)
Car to the left and right wasnt parked right and in my space at all. The car parked in front of me was doing something as well so checking that out as well. I looked in my review mirror and it was cleared. Busy reversing and checking front and back and then as I looked forward I just heard dwah.
Anyway a car was trying to park behind me and we collided. I stopped immediatly and he started to shout at me ect. I just freaked and admitted it is my fault. (which thinking about it now it wasnt totally)
It was an old guy and his wife. So he asked me to drive a bit forward and I climb back in the car. His car is fine except for the registration plate holder that is broken. (it is plastic.) Our car has a really slight bump and paintwork scratched.
Anyone even know how much this is going to cost to fix up? He told me it is fine and I dont need to worry about it. I insisted that he takes my details. I gave my cellphone number, Landline number and name. He didnt give me anything. (I was too shocked to even asked.) Came back and called the police to see if I should report it and they said it is fine no need too but to get the details next time.
Insurance excess if $1000 as we havent converted our lisences yet. So cant see the damage costing more than that so not worth claiming. It better not be that expensive for a touch up job.

Nah no point claiming as the damages will be less than the $1000 excess. If you want take it to a paint shop and see what they say without going through insurance

If it's just a slight bump and some scratches why bother fixing it? Popping the bump out wouldn't cost that much but it's generally the paint work that will most of the cost.. if it was my car I wouldn't bother.

You can take it to a shop and ask them for a no-obligation quote, then you can decide if it's worth doing or not.
ETA: I hope you're okay, I've caused two crashes and it's really nerve-racking!

Well I hope you're feeling better....it probably won't cost much to fix it up as it sounds like its very little damage. I've put a few little prangs into my cars....and one huuuuuuuuge one into my partners flash boy racer car!!. I was turning into the gas station and trying to move to the left as a car coming out was taking up too much room...and I smashed into a post!! damaged the headlights, front spoiler, bonnet, and the side of the car.....So just thank you're lucky stars :D

Shirena - glad you & McKayla are ok! It's a bit of a shock to the system even when you have a small smash.
Have a look online or in your yellowpages. I am not sure where you are, but there is a company around (they come to you) who can remove small dents and do a touch up on the paint. Just can't rememeber what they are called sorry ... but you should be able to find them fairly easily (I hope)

Thanks everyone. Now just to wait until hubby sees the car. McKayla had a long nap and I decided to rest as well. Feeling a lot better and not shaking anymore.
I am just so glad it wasnt more serious and that nothing had happened to McKayla.

Well hubby saw it and he said it is not worth to repair as it is on the bumper and it is plastic. So no worry about rust. I might still go and get a quote. Maybe it isnt too expensive to fix up and I can do it out of my pocket money and at least I dont have to look at it and say mmmm I did that.

Oh umm I did much worse than you to our car! Was driving down a lane in the supermarket carpark, turned right into another lane and a car was driving towards me, they were too far over my side.. so I moved over to avoid them bumping our car. Somehow got tangled up in a bumper of another car, it got stuck inside ours! Had to get an old guy to help me reverse it out, I was so freaked! So now we have a nice hole in the side of our car! never bothered getting it fixed though.
Just thought I'd make you feel better about your little ding

Meow it actually did make me feel better. Hubby actually was really nice about it and kept on telling me it is nothing and we must just be glad it wasnt any worse. And then he laughed telling me how mad I would have been it is him. Now that made me feel bad.
I just love this guy of mine. (Remind me of that next time I get mad at him okay girls!)

hehe when I was pregnant with Hannah I scrapped the corner of the car's bumper in a parking lot. Then at the end of the day when I was going home, I was feeling so bad about having to tell DH what I had done, and pretty tired from work that day... turned a right hand corner at a Give Way and completely didn't see the car coming from my left until I heard the horrible metal-scraping sound eeek! Of course then I felt really bad - two bads in one day!
