Topic: 2nd time round births? Painful? Posted: 20 April 2007 at 11:34am |
Just wondering, for those mums who have had two or more babies, what it is like the 2nd time round? Do the contractions hurt as much??

I think the contractions are about the same, but I felt so much more in control of things and had a better idea of what to expect. I even went with less pain relief!

I found them more painful 2nd time round. My reason I was slower dilating (my first birth I went from 1cm to 7cm in 45 minutes) so I felt the pain over a longer period of time. But remembering the outcome of the pain got me through.

It was more painful second time round for me. Mostly because it happened a lot faster and was more intense.
On the bright side, it happened a lot faster and I healed up a lot quicker too

Second time round hurt more for me too, but then again number one was "easy" and there were complications with number two!
I still say that giving birth is the easy bit and that it is the time after that is tricky!

I thought the whole thing was better and easier, more cos you know what to expect and don't feel so out of control.

and then by the third one you just hit up the anaesthetist for an epidural on the way in and sit around reading magazines until it's time to push once or twice....

I was hoping the answers would be didn't really feel it baby just fell out.
Ripping open was the most painful for me so I'm hoping I'm nice and stretched so it will be a breeze.

same here, I knew what to expect so no panic etc.... just went with it. 2nd one was so easy. although first was posteria so that could be part of the reason he took so long and hurt more and more pain releif. With 2nd had pethadine but she was out before it worked.
But when I first read the heading I thought 'Hell yes' LOL still hurts.

Second (and third) time around for me I think wasn't as bad. Mainly I coz I had a much shorter labour (6 hours vs 41 hours first time).
Possibly TMI but I found the actual birth less painful second time too, when Sienna's head was crowing I had a sudden flashback to the incredible burning I had with Maya and thought "stop the bus, I want to get off!" but when Sienna's head was born the burning was way less intense than I remembered. I barely felt Mercedes head at all, I was numb from Sienna's head 3 minutes earlier.
I didn't get the same out of control feeling second time round that I had with Maya either, and coped much better even with no pain relief.

I have also heard that too Deb and must admit I did get quite sore after pains with Brooke, Josh I don't think I got any. With brooke the after pains felt like I was having contractions again.

My second labour was much more painful and intense than the first but in saying that, the first time the contractions weren't strong enough to get me dilated properly so it wasn't like I had a proper labour - IYGWIM. Whereas the second time, the contractions were really strong and intense from the beginning and nothing at all like the nice comfy ones I had the first time. What a reality check that was!!

my second labour was more painful but only because baby was posteria which gives you a lot of back pain which is hard to find releif from. good thing was that labour was half as long 12 hours instead of 22. but when the contractions do come you get the feeling oh crap thats right now i remember.
