    Posted: 26 May 2007 at 11:38am
A week ago Jack was sleeping 12 hours at night and then a 2 hour day sleep or sometimes 2 one hour ones. On monday night we spent from 2am til 5am at the after hours dr cos Jack had a tummy bug. Hes fine now but all through the week he hasn't been sleeping very long during the day and won't go to sleep at night.

I managed to hold him off a second sleep on thursday and he went to sleep fine that night but now for the past 2 nights he been waking at 1 and not going back to sleep til about 2.30. Usually when he wakes at night I got in give him a drink, tuck him in and turn his music on and he goes back to sleep. The past few nights after I go in hes quiet for about 10 mins and then starts crying again so I go in and lie him down and leave again. This continues until he finally goes back to sleep a good hour later. I'm so tired and his day sleeps have gone back to normal so what can I do to help him sleep?

Sometimes when they get sick it takes a while back to get into their routine.. did for Ella anyway.. and as for what you can do to get them to sleep, if I knew that, I wouldn't have permanent circles under my eyes

He goes down at around 7 and he only has the front 8 teeth. I was wondering can I just leave him to cry or is that too mean?

That depends entirely on you if you want to let him leave to cry. I cant tell you what to do in that regard.

I can tell you what I will do and what we do. I have found as soon as McKayla has sniffles or anything unusual happens that her sleep routine will be a bit messed up. I try not to mess around with it as well like changing nap times ect. I give it a week before making changes and she usually sorts it out herself.

I also respond to cries really quickly and if too tired hubby will take over ect. I will let her comfort suck and hubby will walk around rocking her. She will be out in 5 minutes again.

When it is the terrible teeth rescue remedy is a big pal to us. Seems to calm her down enough to have a great night sleep that night.

I also realised dont count on the fact that they sleep through all the time. Stuff is going to happen. I am putting an aim of sleeping through at 5 years old at least for me. That must be realistic. Cant see her still doing this at 5. Right?

The crying thing would depend on you & your baby & weather you are both comfortable about it. IE: jack isn't too sick & you and your partner can handle the crying, as it is very stressful.

The rescue remedy is a good idea or there are other naturpharm aids like calm-med, colimed-relief & teeth-med etc.

Hope he gets better & is sleeping well soon.
