Topic: Why do people feel they.... Posted: 01 June 2007 at 9:40am |
need to comment on the pregnant woman?
I am so sick and tired of people telling me I am "So small for 25 weeks, and your having twins". No kidding I'm having twins, I already knew that..... before everyone else!!!! I don't think I am that little, infact, I feel like a beached whale most days.... But nearly every person asks me if I am SURE its twins. Oh, why can't they just but out!!!
OK, rant over, now I feel better.

Anna I hear ya! I am getting that at the moment....oh your not even hardly showing yet, gosh your small, blah, blah, blah! Its like hello, not everyone carries the same, just cause I am not huge.......yet, I've got four more months to grow huge!!!
I am definately showing, if they could put themselves in my body, they would notice that the belly has indeed grown to what it normally is!

I guess cause they are the experts and know what they are talking about! I've been getting it too, "oh gosh you are alot smaller this time round aren't you?" I don't flippin know I can't remember that far back!! The other one I get is "oh you look very pregnant today!" So can't win.

I think I would like it if people said "you are not very big". I would think great! I dont look like a beached whale although I would probably feel like one. Cant say for certain however as I am only 10wks and just look I have eaten a few too many pies at the moment.

Yeah, I guess I should take it as a complement, but it gets a bit too much to bear when the same comment comes from every 2nd person. I don't think it helps that I am still in pre-preggy pants etc either, little do they know that I was so sick in the first few weeks that I lost over 10 kg. Don't get me wrong, I do look pregnant, but obviously ALL women that have twins are supposed to grow to the size of a 5 bedroom, 2 story house
It just makes me mad, coz they tack on comments like, "are you sure they are growing enough" and, "oh, I hope they will be healthy" makes my blood boil, and really sets in the panic. As if I am not scared enough by the fact that not only do I have to give birth twice, but I'm going to come home with TWO babied that I have no idea how to look after!!!!
I wonder if one day I will wake up, and just be gigantic, and then I'll get all the opposite comments. Can win really!!!

I know - very frustrating! In just ONE day I got these comments...
"you're hardly showing at all"
"how far along are you?" AND (my all time favourite - NOT!)
"are you sure theres only one in there?"
Honestly!

I'm so with you on this -people have said this to me - right throughout my pregnancy (Your hardly showing Or.. you're big!!) - it's the most annoying thing - (apart from strangers or people you don't know too well prodding or patting your belly)
Last weekend we had couple of friends over for a roast - I don't know our friends lady that well - she was calling me "Fatty" & "big girl" throughout the meal - then prodded my tummy when they left & said "Bye Fatty"!! I was so upset by this.. don't think I was just being hormonal either.
Also we had a large family get together recently & my own mum was overheard saying to distant relatives - oh she's carrying small & then giving the incorrect EDD to compensate!!!

I think a lot of people like to comment on a pregnant woman - and probably even more if she has twins - because it's exciting, but unfortunately they run out of things to say . It's generally considered a compliment to tell a pregnant woman a) that you can see there's a bump and b) that she's not looking overly huge (or ugly ) but the additional comments about "are you sure there's two, or that they're growing ok", man, that's really unthoughtful of them.
And I live in a "2 storey, 5 bedroom house" lol

I am not looking forward to these comments. I am a size 14-16 and 5"5. I carry alot of my weight around my belly and I dont think my bump is showing yet. I felt I already looked 5 months pregnant before I even was up the duff as such.
Should be interesting to see how big I am at 8-9 months. And whether I just look fat or whether I have a huge baby belly with extra padding.

I really enjoyed a reply Liz came up with as soon as someone commented on anything about pregnancy
"What baby? I've got a tumour" (or thereabouts)
Really would prevent any further discussion.

That would have been a good one to say.. I wish I was quick to say something but I was more upset & shocked with her rude comments throughout thier visit - then couldn't believe her poking me & saying bye fatty! at the end..
Just one of those situations that I felt too shocked by her rudeness to say anything.. Instead I gave her a hug & said nice to see you, bye..

I got these comments all the time!!!!! everyone would say "gosh i didnt even realise that you are pregnant! you hide it well!!" and then all of a sudden at 30something weeks they start with the "geez you really popped out!" and "oh it looks like your due now! your going to be huge when you really are due"!!!
I am definately getting very annoyed with everyone asking how long i have to go!!

them: oh your pregnant how many weeks are you??
me: 27weeks
them: (shocked looked) gosh you are small arnt you , is the baby growing ok?? are you keeping well??
it does make you paranoid, im 27wks and can still fit my normal clothes, but i was the same with my daughter so i know the babys fine :)
