Topic: Men helping with the groceries Posted: 11 July 2007 at 8:38pm |
My DH is feeling a bit puffed up tonight I think He insists that if women's men went with them to do the grocery shopping, the women would most definitely stick to their list and budgeting would then be a piece of .... well not cake, because you wouldn't have bought it.
Is he right? I know some men are like that but I would have thought the majority of men would say "oh we don't usually get that, let's just chuck that in the trolley too" etc etc etc.

I would NEVER let my DH go grocery shopping, he would spend a fortune!! He doesnt know what a budget is....and sticking to a list, whats that??
It just cause's arguments if he comes shopping coz I put everything he puts in the trolley back.

when lewis comes shopping we have unexpecte biscuits that "jump" into the trolley along with beer. it all gets blamed on Taine.

Definately not in our case, if I go by myself I stick to the list and top up if something extra is on a super special (eg cleaning stuff or toilet paper). If DH comes along, I get to the check out and there are lollies, chips, coke - if its bad it ends up in our trolley if he comes! And he always has to go shopping when he is starving hungry, so we spend a fortune!
We also play a little game at the checkout as to what the bill will come to, you know he is always smack bang on and I am way out (by the way we don't add up as we go around, its just a wild guess) other couples have overheard us at the checkout and played our little game too!

DH always tells me what we didn't need etc and says if we went we would spend less.
HOWEVER the three weeks he did the shopping after I had Abby he spent heaps more than I do!

We always spend more when DH comes shopping with me - plus he drives me crazy as he insists on pushing the trolley - and usually ends up about 3 aisles ahead... me with armfuls of shopping trying to catch up!

we both go shopping.. always, BOTH of us together, sometimes with both the kids but mainly lately just us two.
from my experience, he is the one that chucks all the bikies int he trolley, and the one that grabs muffins for the kids, and 3 packs of naturals snake lollies (cos they were 3 for $5 of course)and 4 big bottles of coke, just for him, and two blocks of choccy, and 3 packs of muesli bars, get the point?..
yes mike is a sugar junkie.. but whatever, i tend not to try and buy junk cos i know i'm the one that ends up eating it. he gets it on the proviso that apparently i shoul dhavem ore will power and just not eat it. hello.. if you know you're not gonna get any cos i'll eat it all, why buy it anyway, you'll save us money and you'll stop my thighs from getting any bigger!!
taking a man shopping DOES NOT save you money, lol

Suuuuuuuure all you women folk jump on the bandwagon. Busymum missquoted me anyway. What I SAID was not DH go with you, i said DH does the shopping. No more chocolate extras. no more extra stuff. just a plain old list and what goes on it.
...like esentials like beer and chips...

ok if Dh comes with me to do the fortnightly shopping we spend more.
If i send him to the supermarket for certain thingss ie tonight dog food and sandwiche meat thats what he comes home with where I would of picked up a few extra things that I forgot we needed.
so thats doesn't solve anyones arguement there, does it?

he he, yeah if DH does the shopping himself he saves money... we just run out of toilet paper, feminine products, kids stuff, and all other essential stuff. he saves money by rationalising buying utter crap by cutting out the good stuff!

I would never trust DH to do more than pick up a couple of things I specify on his way home...having had a FULL description...and then he adds crap to what he buys too...or a boat magazine etc etc....
and he is a nightmare to take food shopping...think i have told u about him putting condoms in peoples trolleys, putting cakes in when noone is looking to others trolleys, pikcing up stuff for ours with an oh so innocent look.....he is painful - and any of you who have met him can envisage this i am sure!
