I'm going to give quilting a go! Briona has such a thing for blankets/wraps but I'm getting a bit sick of them all being left lying around the house  . Anyway I thought I'd give making one a go, Christmas is my goal at this stage (even though I know it will be hot but never mind), and I'm going to make a big letter 'B' on it. Anyone else done quilting? Oh, and the size I'm thinking of is 110 x 70cm.

Ive never done it but have always loved the idea of making them using the childrens clothing, you know you see in american movies (thinking Stepmom specifically) and its got thier first dress, first jeans, christaning dress etc... I would love to do that

My mum is very much into quilting at the mo, she has done some fantastic pieces.
She gets a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I have to say I am still waiting for her to make me something!
I am just not craft minded at all!

My mum has done heaps (I have 3 at home here if you want some ideas). I can send onto you a heap of tips from her if you like - once she is set up in Oz I can get her to email a heap of pointers. But def go to the cloth shop on Victoria Ave.

It's really not that hard. If I was you I would just start with a reasonably simple one otherwise there can be hundreds of hours of work involved  Good Luck

I got a pattern from spotlight for a babys quilt - easy peasy. Second going to the shop on victoria street they are really helpful.

good luck....quilts are gorgeous....one day when i am well off Im gonna buy one from the Pennsylvania Amish in Lancaster PA...I love their quilts they are divine!!!

Here's a question .... would you do/like one made in wynciette (you know, brushed cotton AKA pyjama material)? It's so soft but I'm not sure if it will stay looking nice for long.

Both of Andrew's and Josh's have that on one side. Andrew has had his for over 2 years now and it is still great.

I checked them out just now. They look really great!
(btw, This isn't a criticism, i'm curious as to how this works.

Ooooh my my mum is SO into quilting.
She does the funkiest wall hangings as well.
She made us a traditional beautiful quilt when we got married as well.

ok there are different sects of the Amish, and there are the strict ones and then also different groups who live in same town but arent "amish" as such - like Mennonites etc....hence why they reap the profits! The true Amish wont sell them....
BTW Chovy did you know they are sold at a place called Intercourse...next to Blueballs, and birdinhand, and paradise....not far from Hershey! TRUE!!!!
SORRY Teresa - anyways - I wouldnt suggest winchiette...i think it would stretch out of shape in places!
